Its not about going further inward. The GOP needs to broaden its base and quit with divisive policies based on hate. The social conservatives are going to have to learn to shut up but they wont because they are accustomed to preference and fear equality.

We will be taxed into grotesque poverty, our children starved , there is no future, and you celebrate this!

I am betting most people identifying as libertarian either voted for Romney or would have if in a state where it mattered.

But libertarians are NOT conservatives. The GOP could do better amongst them.

But it will not be enough when the party fails to attract new voters and continues to alienate with hate mongering. You have to broaden the base and appeal to more voters. You are not going to do that by insulting the 47%, talking about Obamaphone, insisting on denying equal rights to homosexuals, hating other religions and immigrants.

The GOP is going to have to shut the social conservatives up or cut them loose.

But the social conservatives DID shut up! Mitt Romney certainly wasn't the social conservative GOP candidate. He didn't speak about banning Gay Marriage or Abortion, it was the LIBERAL LEFT who brought this up as a wedge issue, and it worked because non-social conservatives have no idea how to argue the point. We listened to the secular libertarian types, and got our clocks cleaned. When Mitt was attacked on these issues, he had no idea how to respond, he probably never had to defend himself against such attacks as the moderate governor of Massachusetts. What we needed was someone who wasn't afraid to stand up for what's right and pop these degenerate sons of bitches in the mouth so hard, they didn't dare to bring it up again. Instead, we got someone who was too timid and afraid of what the independents might think or how they may vote, and they did nothing but continue to allow leftist liberals to control the dialogue. IT FAILED!

Let me tell you what kind of sick psychopaths we're dealing with here... IF some mysterious virus were to completely wipe out every conservative on the planet tomorrow, they would be out there trolling 'moderate liberal' message boards the next day! Well, they can always win it if the national debt hits $30 Trillion, unemployment goes above 12%, inflation goes through the roof, etc. This could all happen in the next four years. Our debt ceiling is about to be raised over $19 Trillion.
