There Is Simply Not Enough Revenue. The Deficit Is Too Large. Debt Is Out Of Control.

Diversity Makes Greatness
Revenue: $3.3 Trillion.

Federal Budget $4.1 Trillion.

We do not have enough revenue to cover our budget.

Read the numbers yourself. The numbers don't lie. Here's all the numbers:

US DebtClock

$841 billion. That's the current deficit.

That figure represents how much less revenue exists to compared to our budget.

That means, every year at that difference, we add another nearly trillion dollars to the debt.

That is unacceptable. We cannot continue to do that. Going bankrupt will be far worse than raising taxes on the rich.

PoliTalker anti-troll thread thief disclaimer:
If this thread is stolen, plagiarized, will the thief have the nerve to use the entire OP, word for word? Including this disclaimer?

If you want my take on it, you'll have to post to this original PoliTalker thread. I refuse to be an enabler for online bullies, so I won't post to a stolen thread. I won't even read it.

Thread thievery is the tool of trolls. It's what people do when they have been so impolite they got banned from a conversation. And then they're sorry and they feel left out. So they steal the thread, call it their own. Then they think they can be in the original conversation. But they can't. If you think thread thievery is cheap and low then don't support it. Save your comments for the original PoliTalker thread. PoliTalker thanks you.

The people banned from this thread were banned because they refused to be polite, so I refuse to talk to them. I came to talk about Just Plain Politics. That's why I am 'PoliTalker.'

We are not collecting enough taxes to pay for our country. We have to raise taxes, and the increase must be born mostly be the rich, because they have benefited the most from our economy.

When the economy is doing well, we are collecting the most revenue possible under the current tax structure.

When the economy is doing poorly, less revenue comes in.

If we have a recession, the deficit is going to shoot up even higher.

It is irresponsible for us to be giving the most advantaged people in our country a big tax cut when not enough revenue is coming in to pay the bills.

If we can't reduce the deficit during a good economy, we will NEVER be able to do it during a recession.

People lose jobs during a recession. They depend on the government safety net. Revenue drops during a recession.

That's why we have to do it now.

Republicans told us the economy would do so well that it would generate MORE THAN ENOUGH revenue to cover the budget. If that happened, we could begin reducing the debt which Republicans argued was too high under Obama.

Republicans did not listen to Democrats who reasoned that was not possible.

Republicans rammed this tax cut through, even though polls indicated the majority of Americans did not believe we should give the rich a huge tax cut.

They said it would pay for itself.

It has not paid for itself.

It has resulted ion increased debt.

We have to bump taxes back up where they were, and worse, we have to bump them up even higher to cover what was lost. The longer we wait to do this, the bigger the tax hike needs to be.

Republicans are only making things worse on the rich they cow tow to.

This is all going to blow up in their face.

The numbers don't lie.

Donald Trump should not get the full blame for the last Tax Bill abomination.

What we got came straight from the Paul Ryan model he has been proposing since he has been in office.

What Paul Ryan wanted was a Bill that put the tax burden completely off on the hardest working and least paid Americans.

What Paul Ryan also wanted was a Tax Bill that did not pay for itself in revenue.

That way he could force the underfunding of Medicare, Social Security, and other entitlements and social safety net programs because there was no more money left to fund them.

Of course Donald Trump did not even know what was in the bill because he didn't read one line of it.

He would have personally signed Paul Ryan's dick, WITH A FRIENDLY REACH-AROUND, just to get a legislative win behind him.

The Republican tax cut was so dumb.

How dumb was it?

The Republican tax cut was so dumb,,, if it was any dumber it would have voted for Mexico to pay for a wall.

I agree, Poli, that there is not enough money coming in.

Sadly, it is also my opinion that there IS NOT enough money going out (meaning, we have much, much more to fund than we are funding now.)

I agree that more money has to come in...and it has to come in from the people who have most of it...the rich.

We should get back to where the top income tax rates should be above 70%...and the inheritance taxes should be progressive and have a high of above 70%.

Not sure where the political clout will come from to get this...but if it does not come, we are in for something as big as the "solutions" for similar problems found by the French in the late 18th century or by the Russians in the early 20th.

It takes a special kind of incompetence to blow a massive hole in the deficit in the midst of a growing economy.

Folks are going to have to learn that the Republican Party intentionally engineers fiscal and budgetary disasters. Is there any serious person who actually thinks Republicans are interested in good governance?

From the GOP perspective, the whole point is to intentionally engineer a fiscal meltdown, and then feign surprise at the disaster they created, and simultaneously proclaim that we have to cut Medicare, SS, and Medicaid to solve the mess they created.

Cut out all the dead wood from the Army alone and that would reduce it by at least half. Same with the VA.
Medicaid back to pre-expansion eligibility. It was just fine before.

What dead wood is in the VA?
Why take Medicaid away from those who deserve it?

If the OP is true, then disaster awaits the country.

The OP is on the mark.

And, unfortunately, SO IS YOURS.

I think it is more likely by far that disaster will hit the country...

...than that we will do what is necessary to prevent disaster.

Take down the war machine of the empire, there's plenty of money. The Pentagon still cannot account for $21T it spent between 1998-2015, even after an "audit".

We chose this state of affairs by being compliant and quiet.
