‘There Are Two Americas Now: One With a B.A. and One Without’

Case and Deaton contend that the ballots cast for Donald Trump by members of the white working class “are surely not for a president who will dismantle safety nets but against a Democratic Party that represents an alliance between minorities — whom working-class whites see as displacing them and challenging their once solid if unperceived privilege — and an educated elite that has benefited from globalization and from a soaring stock market, which was fueled by the rising profitability of those same firms that were increasingly denying jobs to the working class.”

Education divides everything, including connection to the labor market, marriage, connection to institutions (like organized religion), physical and mental health, and mortality. It does so for whites, Blacks and Hispanics. There has been a profound (not yet complete) convergence in life expectancy by education. There are two Americas now: one with a B.A. and one without.

This is an idiotic, bullshit view of how things are no doubt foisted on readers of the NYT by a liberal arts major living in NYC in a high-rise apartment building. I'd bet when their apartment has some issue, be it plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or whatever, they call the building super who doesn't have a degree but makes around $75,000 + managing buildings like that one. The super calls a contractor who doesn't have a degree and who clears $100,000 + a year doing building maintenance. The contractor schedules a "technician" to come and fix the problem. The technician makes $150 a billable hour and clears including slack time over $60,000 a year. They all have 401K's and / or IRA's get health insurance, etc. They're doing just fine.

Meanwhile, our BA possessing journalist with $75,000 in student debt is making a measly $50,000 a year writing crap like this article and worried about being laid off because subscription rates are falling like a space shuttle on reentry with one wing on fire.

The three Americas today: One where people work hard and know stuff, another where people have had all sorts of opportunities due to circumstance, and a third where people--like the writer of this article--scrape by because they don't work very hard, don't know shit worth anything, and aren't connected and monied from the day they were born.

Because America is dying, we forgot what education is, and how important it is.

My America is not dying. What does that have to do with those with a college degree earning more than $1 more in a lifetime than those without a degree?

You are either ignorant, a liar, or you are not paying attention.

Either way you are a waste of time.

I'd like to know how many college cradit hours you have earned. I know how many I did. Kinda was going for a life in Academia for a minute there. I was very good at that!

But like my old English prof said: Those that can, do. Those that can't, teach! Seriously, he was really good.

He made a damn good English professor. He was past the point of giving a fuck by the time I came along. LMAO! Yeah, he gave zero fucks. He had tenure, but what I liked best about him is he told it like it was.

I know that quote did not originate with him, but his delivery was spot on! That's a very true statement.

BAs are lameass degrees for people too stupid to do college-level math/hard science.

They gotta have at least a couple math classes to get there. The 1st thing I learned in college was math, and it's a beautiful thing.

In high school, it sucks. I got to college and they somehow developed the mathematical side of my brain. They knew what they were doing in college much mo' bettah!

And after freshman year, I had it! You could not stop me with math! Advanced classes and all this; Hey, I was happy for the extra points on the GPA.

I learned math from a faggot, but he was a good math teaching faggot. As far as being a college teacher he did a damn good job. God bless him to this day. No teacher taught math as good as he did all my life.

I encountered lots of shitty math teachers until I got to college and the very 1st one was kickass. After about 2 mos in his class, I was unstoppable with math; It's really an entire section of the human brain.

After him, I reckon they wanted to give me some kinda classes; So it was "Advanced College Math with Trigonometry" and it was no problem after learning how it works. Easy A.

College is about learning. Btw, 2+2 does not equal 5 leftardos. I had a few math classes in college after that; Which I never would have passed with the ease I did unless that guy wasn't a kickass teacher. Once you learned it, you had it, and that's

it. MDAS baby.

Joe Sixpack Republicans lack even the most fundamental understanding of political ideological principles.
They literally don't even understand the difference between fascism and socialism.

The corporate oligarch Republicans who have them dangling on marionette strings know how to pull those strings and use them as useful idiots.

There's a reason that they teach the uneducated white working-class Republicans to hate so-called elites.
The brightest and the best understand what's going on, and that intimidates the ignorant more than anything.

It says no where that she took the test four times.

Well that's what has been circulating. When I looked into it, I realized that they might have confused the "four-course" for "four tries".

That is why we always have to be alert and fact check everything.

I am retired, after spending this life doing far better than par.

Sit your ass down.

Your job must have been pathetic if you make NO pension from it...as you said your wife pays 'all the bills'?

Whom you also called a 'slut'...btw.
Odd thing to call a woman whom you are sponging off of.

Then I suppose - if you still can - you will go back and remove/alter that post.

I think the gal is a weirdo.

But posting erroneous shit about people - in a matter of fact way, to boot - is not cool.

Good day.
