There are Democrats who are saying that. Hillary herself favored an "Australian-style" gun control act which means confiscation...or "mandatory buy-back" in Clintonese.
Regardless of what they call it, if it removes rights from Americans, I'm against it. Sure, there are limits; we can't fire our guns in the air within city limits*. Fine. Commons sense should prevail but if that "common sense" means confiscating or restricting small arms from law-biding Americans, I'm against it. Find a better way. A better way is better mental health care. Screening school kids along with other physicals is a good thing. Red Flag laws are good, but it's important to have a fair and thorough process for the accused. Like a 72 hour psych hold, the law and the medical people need to have a means of insuring that innocent people aren't permanently harmed.
Consider that a Red Flag laws are depriving a person of their lawful rights. There needs to be a smooth and certain process for doing so and also to have the rights returned. Like the Terrorist Watch List,** being put on such lists is a lot easier to get on than to be removed. That is unjust and needs to be corrected. If Americans are confident our system is just, they'll be a lot more willing to go along than if they distrust the honest and sincerity of the guy who says "I'm from the government and I'm here to help."
*like on in old Hollywood westerns or on Jihadist Youtube videos.
**remember what Obama wanted to do with Veterans who have previously reported mental issues?
