here is the problem - everyone has a different definition of "centrist".
He ran on a platform of universal health care. a plan set up to create competition between a singlepayer medicare like system and the private sector. many analysts believe the eventual outcome of that will be a morphing into single payer. anyone who thinks obama is not aware of this, is fooling themselves.
he ran on a platorm of a green revolution, which would also create a tremendous amount of jobs.
he ran on a platform of huge investments into infrastructure, FDR like.
So you know, if you want to call those center postions, that's cool. a rose by any other name.
but what you are going to see is the right-defined center is going to move to the left. you might never call it center left. klatu might never call it center left. but the fact is that the center has been moved to the right since reagan, and you are going to see it move left, and we will still call it the center.
the new center left will be things like real and true sentencing reform, legalization of pot etc. that's where grass roots pressure is going to have to be brought to bear on him.
