“There is this very strong libertarian belief that inequality is not a proper area of study for economists,” Deaton said. “Even if you were to worry about inequality, it would be best if you just kept quiet and lived with it.”

Shouldn't economists focus on rigorous, dispassionate, mathematical and statistical study of economies and understanding them rather than social and economic justice politics?

Of course. For you it makes sense in some bizarro way that economists should ignore facts, science, and mathematics, in favor of political correctness, pushing woke policies, and insanities of the radical Left... In short, you call for them to ignore the science.
