The vast majority of gun owners in this country are law-abiding citizens

Wrong. You live in the same society where mass murder is committed with 'legally obtained' weapons, compliments of the gun rights and the proliferation of guns. It's the 'rights' that facilitated the mass murder.

Yet you don't have a problem with your so called right to abortion killing a million babies a year. Odd.

You can 'take it' any way you choose. You will, anyway. You're a gun nut. There is no reasoning with gun nuts. It's all or nothing with you guys. Fine with me. Your rights are the direct reason for the Colorado shoot-up. As long as we are willing to allow the NRA, gun lobby and its zealots to define freedom to include whacko's rights to shoot up movie theaters, then shot-up movie theaters is what we'll get. And you're fine with that. IN fact, it is well worth it to you. The majority of the country is in agreement with you and its representatives in government have whored themselves to the money behind that thinking. Win/win for the gun nuts. :)

no one defines it this way. i know you are smarter than that, so how about we put the strawmen aside.

I am going to take it by your silence you do favor banning assault weapons. Tell me, why is it that a country strict on guns such as norway still had their own masacre? I thought banning and limiting guns was supposed to end the violence?

May not end it, but makes it harder to commit. Look at Norwys death by gun rate compared to ours.

it'll never be harder to commit for the crazies. Also a lot of our deaths are accidental. Lastly, obviously a nation with more guns will have more gun deaths, but that doesn't address the total death rate, or the total murder rate. I'm sure knife killings and bludgeoning are higher in those countries, and as I have posted before, there are many european countries ranked as "more violent" than the united states. Including the UK. By a very large margin.

Gun prohibition will not solve our problems, just like the drug war wont stop people from getting and using drugs. Creating a black market which feeds criminals profits is not the solution.

No. It isn't a strawman. Holmes' guns and ammo were legally obtained. He didn't slip through any cracks. He is the poster child for WHO HAS A RIGHT to possess and use firearms.

The potential for disaster exists each and every time a gun and ammo are purchased. No exceptions. There is no foolproof way to guarantee against it, and that potential risk is "worth it" to you, so you don't get to walk that back now.

You can take my silence any way you choose. I don't relate to gun nut culture. The genie's out of the bottle. Assault weapons are here to stay. Be happy about it.

Norway isn't one of them. Their murder rates are extremely low per capita. Their crime rate is extremely low per capita.

bijou, you are clearly afraid to debate anything on it's merits. I don't know why you are even in this thread if you are choosing not to discuss anything.

And yes, it is a strawman. No one has ever said someone has the "right to shoot up a movie theater."

Myself, (and others maybe) have said that it's a good trade off, but no one sanctions what that psycho did. So stop suggesting as such.

and yet the psychos were still able to obtain a small armory. Those that want to, will be able to. that is a fact. Banning guns WILL NOT prevent another incident like what happened in colorado. So using that situation as a justification to ban guns is completely foolish.

Just because you neither like my contributions to the discussion nor agree with them doesn't mean I am 'afraid' to debate on the merits. You're late to this soiree. I've had plenty to say, none of which would be palatable to a gun nut.

You said it was 'worth it'. Best you go delete your posts if you can't own it after the fact.

They have higher crime rates, but we are #1 in homicide. I will fetch the numbers

Tell ya what puddin I will make a deal with ya. I will agree to your limitations in guns if you agree to my limitations on abortions.

Deal?

You libtards say you are all about compromise. So here is your chance. What say you?

I don't make deals with whack jobs, Alias. Cuckoo-cuckoo!

And btw, if you want to whine about abortion, start a thread about it. Maybe I'll post to it? ;)

You first stipulated I didn't know the full extent of your position and that I shouldn't assume. I then ask you what your position is (do you support banning assault weapons? ammo restrictions?) And you dance around unwilling, or unable to give a response.

Then you just throw out strawmen.

You said it was 'worth it'. Best you go delete your posts if you can't own it after the fact.

yes, it is worth it. 12 people are nothing in the grand scheme of things. I am not swayed by emotional crocodile tears. That doesn't mean someone had a "right to shoot up a movie theater" If that were the case, the man obviously wouldn't be arrested... I feel as though I am talking to a 5 year old.

why are you calling this guy alias and why would you know about someone named alias? There is no evidence by the way that facts is alias. If that were the case I would instaban him.

Good for you. Be happy that your rights prevailed in Colorado. "Worth it". Right?

Kinda stupid to whine, piss and moan about the 'rights' to guns designed for no other purpose other than mass murder. What do you think people intend to do with such guns and their 'rights' to have them?

My logic escapes you. Yes, I'm like a 'five year old'. Go with that.
