I'm sure they don't look at it that way, but coming out against the 'Muslim ban that's not a Muslim ban' can have a steep political downside.

It's a time and numbers game: the more you let in, the greater the probability a terrorist or 50 slips through gates. I'd give it a way better than 50/50 odds a Muslim refugee turns out to be a bad apple. And that's just the terrorist aspect.

Looking at Europe, one can see an increase in rape and etc, since these people come from a very different culture than ours.

If it happens that way, the political fallout will be considerable---and it won't benefit liberals.

It was just 15 years ago the Pete Wilson was governor of California. Times change. Bigoted forces can win temporary victories, but the blowback is usually pretty huge.
