This isn't the first time South Carolina Dems voted for a candidate for this office that didn't quite fit with what they were going for. The article for Alvin Greene on Wiki suggests that some primary voters may have thought he was the much better known singer Al Green.
What say you? An accident by just enough voters, or intentional plant by outside forces to oust his better-prepared white primary opponent from the general?
I'm thinking it's the latter. Candidates with poor campaigns like this do not win nearly 60% of the vote just for showing up. I guess if it is a color thing, though, it doesn't speak well for the voters in the first place.
But just a little background, last go-round, some of you might recall, the South Carolina Dems put up Ron Paul follower Bob Conley against Lindsey Graham, and Conley ran right of Graham on practically every issue. I don't think that was their intention either.
So, I'm not sure they've been paying any serious attention to this office for quite some time. Which seems strange considering its magnitude.
Overall, I think DeMint will steamroll over any Democrat opponent this year, but I'm very interested to see where the story goes.
