The Shirley Sherrod Incident

While the Pillsbury Dough Boy does his best to spin out of this latest embarrassment for the administration, the entire incident is yet another reminder of the incompetence found in the Oval Office.

On Monday, Andrew Breitbart ran a video clip on his website, where Ms. Sherrod was giving a speech to the NAACP. She was telling the story of how she had a 'racist' attitude toward white farmers in 1986, when she worked for a non-profit organization, and not the government. The point of her confession, was to emphasize how she had changed, and no longer used race as her guide. It was a story of redemption, and what Breitbart was pointing out, was the response of the NAACP audience, who actually APPLAUDED when she said she had not done everything she could for the white farmer. This indicated the clearly racist attitude of the NAACP, not Shirley Sherrod.

On Tuesday, she was forced to resign by the administration. She was told it was because "you're going to be on Glenn Beck tonight!" Clearly, the administration thought the focus was going to be her "racism" but this was never indicated by Beck or anyone else on the right. In fact, Beck went on to air a program (without Sherrod), where he actually DEFENDED the woman, and demanded she be given her job back. Later, Charles Krauthammer would also lament the same sentiments as Beck, that she was unfairly judged by the administration.

I am still trying to figure out how the administration can justify a policy of not prosecuting blacks, endorsing racist groups like the Black Panthers and ACORN, but they are so hypersensitive to an agriculture department director's admission of racism 25 years ago, to which she has repented. It doesn't comport with logic. Unless you want to believe Andrew Breitbart has the ability to sway the administration's actions, and that is pretty damn scary, if you think about it. I think there is more to this, something doesn't smell right about it.

Sherrod's comments, taken in context, are completely in line with the message this administration ran on and was elected to power with. She basically said she converted from being a racist to being a Marxist, which is pretty much what Obama has said himself. It's not about race... black and white... it's about "the haves" and "have nots" ...that's what she said, and that is what Obama signaled as he ran for president. Her comments warranted a cabinet position, a promotion, recognition from this administration, not the demand that she pull over to the side of the road and resign.

Today, we are hearing Gibbs 'excuse' the hasty decision to fire her, stating that "all the facts were not known" ....but the NAACP had the full tape, and the media outlets certainly were able to piece together what actually happened, so the 'excuse' just doesn't wash. Now the spin is, the White House was "snookered" by Breitbart and Fox News! Rather than take responsibility for what was obviously a knee-jerk overreaction, they are going to lay the onus on the right. Typical of this arrogant administration who can't seem to accept blame for the simplest of things.

As usual, if it's from Dixie...then it must be total horseshit!

Here is the OPENING POST from Ice Dancer on another thread discussing the same issue:

"This proves that this organization needs to expel its own racist's within before it dictates to others!!!
This took place at the very 20th annual event where Jealous makes his NAACP resolution against the TEA Party! <mss Sherrod worked as USDA Georgia director. I say worked becausde she has just this evening resigned!!!

In the first video, Sherrod describes how she racially discriminates against a white farmer. She describes how she is torn over how much she will choose to help him. And, she admits that she doesn’t do everything she can for him, because he is white. Eventually, her basic humanity informs that this white man is poor and needs help. But she decides that he should get help from “one of his own kind”. She refers him to a white lawyer."

Andrew Breitbart posted this to try and smear the NAACP and it blew up in his face...ID"s post clearly show the intent was to discredit this supposed "racist" woman...WHOOOPS...now he and ID are both desperately backpedaling and trying to cover their asses.

Well it looks to me like the President's PRESS SECRETARY is the one who is trying to cover ass here, and peddling backwards faster than he ever has before. The NAACP is clearly racist, and they were going to allow this woman to be thrown under the bus to avoid implication. THAT is what blew up in THEIR face, as well as the face of this administration.

Breitbart lied about the video. If what Breitbart claimed were actually true, the actions of the Administration and the NAACP would have been appropriate. The problem is that Breitbart was predictably full of shit and the NAACP and Administration believed him.

The bottom line is Andrew Breitbart originated this story and FAUXnews ran with it in an attempt to smear the NAACP as racists.

It later was discovered just how far out of context Ms Shrrod's comments were taken when the entire video became available to the public...AND FROM THAT INSTANT, Breitbart and FAUX have both been backpedaling.

How the fuck can you "lie" about a goddamn VIDEO???? Breitbart didn't lie about ANYTHING, he posted a VIDEO of the woman speaking herself! He didn't put the words in her mouth, he didn't overdub the video!

And are you REALLY going to argue that the NAACP or the Administration accepts whatever Breitbart says as "the truth" without some fact checking? That's a pretty astounding revelation, if that is the case!

Again, let's be honest about reality here... The Press Secretary of the President of the United States, was just giving a Press Conference, where HE was doing the backpedaling, and trying to explain the administration's embarrassing overreaction! I've not seen Breitbart or Fox doing any "retraction" of the story, or anything else that could be construed as 'backpedaling' on it.

He didn't post the video without commentary. He wrote a long piece to accompany it. Additionally, the video includes some introductory background material that was misleading at best. Additionally, you edit can a video and take things out of context and end up with such a misleading product that it amounts to be a lie.

And are you REALLY going to argue that the NAACP or the Administration accepts whatever Breitbart says as "the truth" without some fact checking? That's a pretty astounding revelation, if that is the case!

Well, Breitbart's the classless fuck that lied in the first instance. Of course he isn't going to admit he's a classless fuck liar. And FOXNews is FOXNews. What'd you expect?

Then explain why she is saying that the White House wanted her resignation; because they were convinced that the incident would be on Glen Beck's show, that evening.

THEY HAD HER PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE FUCKING ROAD AND TENDER HER RESIGNATON.

You say you want to be honest, but you still won't admit that the video of Ms Sherrod that Breitbart loaded up on his site yesterday was taken out of context in the hopes of painting the NAACP as racists.

It was done as payback for the NAACP claims the TEA party has racist elements.

It backfired and now Breitbart and FAUX News are both playing CYA.

I'm not sure what you're asking me here.

For the simple reason that this administration doesn't tolerate racism in it's ranks and they took for granted that what Breitbart posted was the whole story and not taken out of context.

Lo and behold!! Look what it gets people for assuming a conservative could possibly be truthful when speaking of a liberal.

I think knee-jerk reaction to something like this causes its own problems. Even before the full tape came out I was saying that I wanted to see it all before I'd make a judgment. It was foolish of whomever made the decision not to seek all of the information.

You say you want to be honest, but you still won't admit that the video of Ms Sherrod that Breitbart loaded up on his site yesterday was taken out of context in the hopes of painting the NAACP as racists.

THE NAACP IS RACIST! NOT SHIRLEY SHERROD! Should Breitbart have spelled that out more clearly? That seems to be where you're under a misconception about this. Breitbart was articulating how the NAACP had ridiculed the TEA Party as having "racist elements amongst the group" by posting a video which showed exactly that in the NAACP! He exposed the utter HYPOCRISY of the NAACP on this question of "racism in your midst" as this woman basically admitted that to be the case for her in 1986. The audience broke out in emotive support for her comments, when she was talking about not doing all she could for the white farmer, it's on the video. The NAACP thinks it's perfectly acceptable that Shirley was racist toward the white farmer, before she ever gets to the "rest of the story" as Paul Harvey would say.

The White House, and even the NAACP itself, apparently didn't check the "rest of the story" and it wasn't Andrew Breitbart's fault they didn't. He is a right wing Internet icon, like Ariana Huffington or Matt Drudge... his business is to sell sensationalism on a website. The White House, The PRESIDENT, and the ADMINISTRATION is supposed to do some homework, find out the details, and respond appropriately. Clearly, that DID NOT HAPPEN!

It was done as payback for the NAACP claims the TEA party has racist elements.

It backfired and now Breitbart and FAUX News are both playing CYA.

Again, it was done because Breitbart is an Internet Political Guru, like HuffPo, Drudge, etc... He is not the one who has to check out all the story, find out what was going on with this, what the woman said, the context, whether it was something she should resign over or not... they just overreacted, and now they are spending this entire day, spinning and correcting the overreaction, because Glenn Beck is about to clean their damn clocks on it.

And Again... been watching Fox News all day, and haven't seen the first inkling of a retraction, or anything that could be construed as 'backpedaling' on what they have reported. I haven't checked Breitbart's site, but I don't suspect he has retracted anything either. So where you get some illusion that Fox and Breitbart are playing CYA, I don't know... have you taken your meds today?

You no more have all the facts about Breibart's motives than anyone had initially about Shirley Sherrod's speech back in March. You're just a bottom feeder trying to find some way to squirm your obese body into a discussion where you might be able to finally look credible. Put up the facts about Breibart's intention that you claim above and prove his intentions were exactly as you say.

He clearly states he wanted to hold up the mirror to the NAACP & that they better wipe the fog off before they start painting entire groups with the you're racist card.

When you start shrieking about rushing to judgement, your own fat a$$ is at the head and your shrill hysterical voice is disgusting!

Of course you won't take a Hannity interview seriously, but for the folks here who would actually like to hear from Andrew Breibart, at least maybe they will listen to his words rather than the hysterical rantings of a fat man thinking he's finally got something juicy to say and wetting his pants on a public message for all to witness.

HANNITY: Hang on. Hang on. I just want get some facts on the table and then — I want your opinion on everything else associated with it. All right, but — so you have this tape since April?

BREITBART: I didn't have the tape. I had recognition that it existed.

HANNITY: It existed. OK.

BREITBART: And the man told me about it. And he tried to send it to me and it came on a disc and it didn't show up. I said this is annoying. So when the NAACP thing happened, I found his phone number, I called him up, and he sent me to — two excerpts of the video.

HANNITY: OK. And the allegation now of the left is alright, hang on a second, even though she said — and she said she harbored these views in this tape. She described how she racially discriminated against the white farmer. That's not in dispute. That's on the video. She's not disputing that.

BREITBART: And she described the white man as the other — your kind. She describes your kind.

HANNITY: She decides that he'll get help from one of his own kind and she referred him to a white lawyer. But she also said on the tape that — admits that she didn't do everything she could for him because he's white.

Now what critics are saying is well that was edited. And what she's claiming is that that was edited, that she left out the part that she had learned from this at the end of the tape which we just heard.

BREITBART: The reason why Shirley Sherrod is the story right now, not the NAACP, is because the White House which stands by the firing or the forced resignation — harassment as she said — they made the story about Shirley. They threw her under the bus.

I have not asked that she get fired. I've not asked for an investigation into her. The whole point was to show that the — for the NAACP to spend five days on national TV saying that the Tea Party is racist without any evidence when we can prove that the central argument didn't happen and the mainstream media won't play it — for them to talk about racism they should not be throwing stones in glass houses.

And what this video shows and what the NAACP affirms in their initial rebuke is not just that Shirley Sherrod, what she said was wrong, but that the audience was laughing and applauding as she described how she maltreated the white farmer.

HANNITY: Before she gets to the end of the story which is — which she's claiming puts context. But there's a —

(CROSSTALK)

BREITBART: Did the people in the audience know that there was going to be a point of redemption?

HANNITY: No.

BREITBART: The point is that the NAACP at a dinner honoring this person is cheering on a person describing — describing a white person as the other. This is far worse than anything —

HANNITY: Let me ask you this.

BREITBART: — that has ever been alleged against the Tea Party and certainly not proved.

HANNITY: And the history of you and this Tea Party and this allegation of racism, you offered 100,000 out of pocket if there were any video or audio tapes that would prove the allegations that racial epithets were hurled at African-American congressmen and women, correct?

BREITBART: Yes. But enough about me, Sean. I'm going to get to the heart of the issue right here. Mary Francis Berry was the former chair of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights appointed by President Carter and Clinton. This is not a conservative, OK.

This is what she said that has to do with what's going on right now and why this is not about Shirley and Andrew, this is about the NAACP and the Congressional Black Caucus and the Democratic Party: "Tainting the Tea Party movement with the charge of racism is proving to be an effective strategy for Democrats. There's no evidence that the Tea Party adherence are any more racist than other Republicans and indeed many other Americans. But getting them to spend their time purging the ranks and having candidates distance themselves should help Democrats in November, having one's opponent rebut charges of racism is far better than discussing

And what's funny is EVERYBODY'S GUILTY this time...

Breitbart is guilty for posting the video out of context...

The NAACP is guilty of caving to pressure from the WH...

And the WH is guilty of just plain jumping the gun before all the info was in...why they did so considering where the original posting came from is beyond me!

The thing of it is, it seems to be a pattern with the WH. Snap judgments on things like the intelligence of cops and their "racism", firing people for a story about what they had learned 26 years ago....

That's a good little Rightie Automaton...CYA just like all the other scurrying Rightie Roaches are doing!!

You CLEARLY CALLED THIS WOMAN A RACIST yesterday and then started backpedaling when you realized you'd bought into Breitbart's Big Lie!

Cover Yer Ass...

I should thank you...the gales of my laughter at your ridiculous spinning and backpedaling has GOT to count for some calorie burning, so in a way you're helping me lose weight...THX!!
