a) Trump said he would be proud to shut down the government over border security. "I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. I'm not going to blame you for it." President Trump said in the oval office to minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) 18/12/11 with Speaker Pelosi and VP Pence witness.
b) The depressing thing about all this is it's the Democrat leadership that's taken the $fiscally $conservative position here. Pelosi & Schumer are heroically battling back the borrow-&-spend Republican $squander-lust.
Conservatism is an indispensable ingredient in our modern civilization. What an insufferable tragedy that we have to turn to the Democrats to find any of it.

And with two words, Schumer made sure only a moron would refer to this as the 'Schumer Shutdown'.

The U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) has taken a position on it. And
President of the United States of America Donald Trump (R-NY) has taken a contrary position.
Any accurate discerner of truth would have decided it's the Democrat that is to be trusted, and the Republican that is to be dismissed.
I confess. It's exceedingly difficult to refute your position. When they both spoke about it in Trump's house, our president said:

Not a lot of ambiguity in such a statement; even if Trump has subsequently flip-flopped. Trump does that quite a bit.
It was hilarious to watch how easily Schumer goaded that dumbfuck into owning the shutdown. That’s why he was actually laughing during that session.

Pretty hard to be confused about who shut down the govt.

I suspect that some illegal immigrants are DEMOCRAT voters, so naturally "their" elected representatives would pander to them.
