[h=1]'What the hell are we paying you for?'[/h]New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie ripped President Obama for the failure of the debt supercommittee, calling the president "a bystander in the Oval Office" in comments Monday.

“I was angry this weekend, listening to the spin coming out of the administration, about the failure of the supercommittee, and that the president knew it was doomed for failure, so he didn’t get involved. Well, then what the hell are we paying you for?” Christie said in Camden, N.J. " 'It’s doomed for failure, so I’m not getting involved'? Well, what have you been doing, exactly?”

The President has plenty of time for basketball, hot dogs, and golf. Nice work if you can get it.

Obama already struck his deal back in August. If Congress wanted to change it, the Super Committee was their opportunity to do so. It failed. How is that Obama's fault again?

The Super Committee was doomed to fail from the start since Republicans refused to agree to any deal that included new taxes and Democrats refused to agree to any deal that didn't include any. The only trick is how the Republicans would blame Obama. He didn't get involved so they blame his lack of involvement as the reason for the failure. If he did get involved they would have blamed his involvement and politicizing the committee's efforts.

Pretty transparent stuff.

Tell us, what deal was reached in August?

Obama is failing as a LEADER. He sat back and did nothing... except whine of course... he is really good at whining about how nothing is getting done... all the while he sits around doing nothing.

The deal that resulted in the creation of the Super Committee. You really don't remember that? If not, you should seek immediate medical attention.

What specifically should Obama have done? Locked the committee members in a room until they reached an agreement? The world doesn't work that way.

The entire thing was a fake from the beginning. More deliberate waste of taxpayer's time and money. The left is not going to cut anything. They need to be tossed out because this shit has to stop. We are in serious trouble.

we are in no where near serious trouble, it's faux outrage.

WE drop helicopters of money in Iraq, but we can't cut the military or funding for dea

That's part of the executive branch of gov't, correct?

So, you are saying that as current leader of his party and as the person who will sign or veto he should never participate in any form of government other than signing/vetoing bills and policing? His input is unnecessary, especially as a leader? That he was right out trying to pass guide and promote a Health Care bill that nobody wants? Is that what you are saying or are you just asking random questions that have no meaning to the discussion?

Waiting for the election? Then he can let the people know exactly what will be cut? Let the people know how the Repubs refused to compromise allowing the default position of cutting vital programs?

My take on it is Obama's not playing the typical political game. He's had enough of the bickering and dragging on of negotiations, the usual political posturing we see. Congress members exiting the building to waiting cameras and microphones to grab the spot light.

Remember Bush? One couldn't turn on their TV without seeing his face and hearing a speech. Obama is not that type of person. He doesn't require the admiration of the masses. He doesn't need a live video feed from the Oval Office so people can watch him work. He'll take his case to the people in time for election day. Let the members bitch and whine and scrap among themselves and shoot off their mouths telling us how hard they're working to come to an agreement when one word, "Yes", would settle it.

I see Obama as being above the fray. He's there to get things done like he did with ObamaCare. He knows it's pointless with a majority of Repubs in the House even if the SuperCommittee is evenly staffed. He's not selling out. It's better to let two year pass than to buckle under and have laws that result in further poverty.

Let the people decide next November. A clear choice. An up-or-down vote, so to say. All the marbles.

Yes, it is. Are you now going to pretend that Presidents don't ever offer advice, plans, budgets, or get involved when the two parties are at an impasse? Are you going to pretend it is ok for our President to sit around whining rather than trying to work out an agreement? Are you going to pretend that Clinton/Reagan etc... just sat around waiting on the legislature to pass stuff with no input?

Obama should have participated in the discussion. He should have at least attempted to get something done now.

Saying obama reached a deal to create a super committee is NOT reaching a deal on the deficit problems. It is simply his standard vote of 'present' and 'I will push this problem as far into the future as I can so no one can hold me accountable for anything'

You know what I'm saying, Damo. Obama delegated to the supercommittee. Dung stated it, but it's 100% true - if he was involved in the discussions or exerting influence in any overt way, you guys would be all over it, telling us how he's politicizing important debt talks and sticking his nose where he shouldn't.

I probably can find a few threads where you & your rightie brethren have argued just that at times, with not much effort.
