If those voting for Obama 68% voted no on 8

Of those voting for McCain 84% voted yes on 8

Its not color folks its old conservative voters who go to church frequently.
 
You have to remember that all voters do not mark the entire ballot.

Lots of people dont vote on the propositions. I would like to see how many california voters didnt mark the issue at all.

What a crock of shit.... TWO THIRDS of black voters in CA voted FOR prop 8. TWO THIRDS.

I guarantee you that TWO THIRDS of black voters were not 'old conservative voters'.

Rap is notoriously gay and women hating.


Its one of the things I think Obama will change about black culture.

I agree it is bigotry. It also makes me angry.

That said, I support removing the government from marriage all together. It is a religious ceremony. Let them keep it. The government should not be involved in marriage at all. If the government wants to issue legal contracts to provide inheritance, visitation rights etc... then use cival unions for any two non-related adults who wish to enter such a contract.

Agreed. I think the hang up is on everyone wanting to 'force' the opposing side to adhere to their definition of 'marriage'. It makes me rather ill.

There is a STRONG anti-gay component in black culture. It's not just from rap either. Most black voters are churchgoers and social conservatives. Many if not most are opposed to abortion and are socially conservative.

They aren't usually as vocally opposed to it as normal conservatives, but when called to make a decision about it they usually vote no.

Interestingly, most of the young black people in my band supported gay marriage when we talked about it. Maybe it's turning around with the new generation, or maybe the demographics of my band are just skewed.
