The President Bows . . .

you have to be the board's biggest tool....that picture has been debunked as bush bowing a LOOOOOONG time ago....he is bending over to recieve a medallion from the king you moron

so no, bush was not bowing...thanks for the laugh though

What can I say?

When you are right, you are right.

I made a mistake...I was wrong.

thats because only homophobes like you see any problem with holding another man's hand....the vast majority of cultures view holding another man's hand as no big deal, not gay....

but since you're a closet ass bandit, you would of course view it solely as gay

you don't even realize what a shithead you're being...you're saying that america should not elect a homosexual president....congrats, you and southern man are in agreement on something...

well spurt you and southernbell make a great couple. I've never seen a man walking down the street holding another mans hands. Maybe you do that all the time. Here, not so much. tool your a mental midget

The link to the politico.com provided by you.

Was it as deep a bow as Obama's? No, but how old is that Emperor? He doesn't look like he bends in too many places anymore.

Joking aside, the guest should bow more deeply to show his respect for being invited into the host's home.

he didn't bow...watch it again, he doesn't start to look down until obama starts bending over at the waist, thus, it wasn't a bow, he was merely trying to follow obama and keep eye contact

I just see it differently.

I think the Emperor's such an old guy it takes him a sec to get his bow on. It's also the reason he can't bow deeply, he's not that limber anymore.

Moreover, after watching President Obama bow a few times, I have to say it doesn't appear to me as though he's being subservient. His bow WAS deep as a respectful bow should be, but he didn't hold it. He went down and came right back up with no pause, showing the respect he has for the Emperor but not remaining in the subservient position.

FROM THE NEW YORK TIMES

It wasn't a bow, exactly. But Mr. Clinton came close. He inclined his head and shoulders forward, he pressed his hands together. It lasted no longer than a snapshot, but the image on the South Lawn was indelible: an obsequent President, and the Emperor of Japan.

...

But the "thou need not bow" commandment from the State Department's protocol office maintained a constancy of more than 200 years. Administration officials scurried to insist that the eager-to-please President had not really done the unthinkable.

...

"Presidents don't bow, and Emperors don't toast," one official said. "So this was a little bit like the cultures meeting each other halfway."

interesting the different take on events by the NYT today and back then....and by administration officials...clinton ALMOST bowed and it created a hoopla....obama bows twice and its crazy republicans who are making a big deal out of nothing...

The bows should be equal because they are equals, they are both heads of state. Of course, in the great big scheme of things it really isn't all that important, other than showing him to be too eager. It doesn't suddenly make the Emperor have power or anything, it doesn't make the Queen of England suddenly have power, or the Pope, or that dude in Saudi Arabia, etc.

I don't remember ever seeing the Pope or Queen bowing to anyone, why is this different? It is the etiquette of the UK, the Vatican, and Japan in this case that the President wisely observed. It is the protrocol.
Any thought of subservience comes from the ignorance of Fox and those swallowing the drivel. Their well-deserved insecurity is what is truly evident.

My goodness. I was not aware that any of your media had bothered with this story. Fox news reported it negatively?????? Bloody hell!!

The smoking gun!

Probably worth the half hour of googling it took you to find it. At least it covers the multitude of lies you have told on this thread...
:clink:

good gawd can't they hire someone to teach the Community organizer on the protocols of being a United States President..

what an embarrassment and disgrace he's been to the office and us..:palm:

I say who gives a fuck if he takes a bow; he looked like a dork and that certainly made it worth it~~~:clink:

Wrong Desh. When two heads of state meet, it should be the same level. Otherwise it is a breach of protocol.

The Prime Minister is the "head of state" in Japan. The Emperor is the current decendent of the Japanese Royal Family as is Queen Elisabeth the latest of her Royal Family. The Emperor is also the head of the Shinto Religion as is the Pope the head of Catholicism.
As does the Pope, a descendent in a line of Popes since Peter, he gets special deference from political foreign dignitaries such as presidents and prime ministers. What would take place in a meeting of the Pope and Emperor, I don't know but until then, the Emperor bows to no ordinary man.

I'll repeat, the concept of this thread from the start is based on stupidity and ignorance.

Nonsense! Protocol and etiquette is for politically correct punks!!

Our president should be taking these opportunities to show our folksy, unrefined, and down-home American charm….

…eating with his mouth open, giving unwelcome massages to female leaders, vomiting in the Emperor’s lap, and kissing Saudi kings.
