The one bright spot of trump's disaster of a trade policy, Biden can reverse it well

Back To Reality
trump drove down the American economy, and helped the Chinese economy. trump made the USA weak. And then removed our allies so we would be even weaker. he cost us millions of jobs, and in the end got us a promise to buy soybeans... A promise that has not been kept.

I have said it before, and I will say it again, I do not grow soybeans. I have nothing against soybean farmers, but doing severe damage to the rest of the economy to support them makes no sense. Worse yet, the Chinese are not even honoring the deal. trump was so eager to get something, he was willing to allow the Chinese decide whether they wanted to honor it or not.

It sounds like non-stop bad news, so is there any good news?

Yes, we have a new, competent President. Biden will be able to reverse a lot of the damage.

That was one of the only good things about the #TRE45ON reign. Most of what he did was via Executive Orders, which Biden is reversing. Other than the tax give-away to the wealthy, there was little legislative legacy left by the departing #IMPOTUSx2.

trump used taxpayer money to become more personally powerful. To get taxpayer money, business leaders needed to pay trump, always in political support, but often in actual kickbacks.

such hubris on a grand delusional scale.
The economy pre-COVID was awesome, and wage gains went to the lower percentiles.

If Biden were smart ( and no one has ever accused Biden of being brainy) he's pick up Phase 1 negotiations
where Trump left off and enforce those negotiated ends to forced shared R&D, IP theft and industrial spying

But Biden is clueless - instead relying on "strategic patience" ( doing nothing) with China

So I go back to this thread from 2007 about China and U.S. trade policy and that it cost U.S. jobs. Here was a response from that thread:

You think this was an accident, or somehow all unintentional?

This was exactly what the wall street republicans, and corporate-sponsored Dems had in mind when the passed NAFTA, WTO, and China MFN.

A downward pressure on labor costs and wages in the United States.

People like Cawacko, Damocles, and Stuperfreak actually bought into the nonsense that William F Buckley, Ronald Reagan, George Bush, and Alan Greenspan were actually valiantly trying to improve the status, power, and wage potential of america's working middle class. Is it possible to be any more foolish that to believe scions of the conservative movement and america's rich investor were invested in improving the power and status of Joe and Jane working class american?

So is Joe Biden a corporate sponsored Dem or is he about improving the power and status of Joe and Jane working class American when it comes to trade? And if he's that latter what does that entail?

he's really neither in terms of China -just acquiescence = "strategic patience" as his stated policy

Bump for you Walt since you started the thread. My theory is many Democrats aren't against tariffs against the Chinese per se, they just don't like them because it was Trump doing it. But I'll ask again, what would a trade policy look like if you were President that isn't corporate Dem or trade war and tariffs and helps the working people?

Biden believes we should use our like minded allies to create a negotiating alliance to get what we all want. trump believed that by going it alone, and negotiating from a place a weakness, the force of his whining would get the Chinese to agree to give him stuff.

no he didnt want the chinese to give him stuff he wanted fair tariffs on American products , something Biter will never get he will also bend to the Chinese military and suk up at every chance he can

Trump was not knowledgeable in politics or economics. Almost no economist sanctioned tariffs. they are a tax on consumers.

that is actually praise coming from a dickhead like you who gets everything wrong. you voted for trump, you believe the goofy shit he spewed, you are a moron...get it? so if you judge someone else as being stupid it means he must be brilliant.

trump fought hard to have soybeans bought from the USA. Not a fair competition, just buy soybeans. trump was willing to let computer chips, software, and other high value markets be unfairly treated, as long as the Chinese bought soybeans unfairly from us.
