If he approved categories there should be a document with his real signature authorizing the auto-pen to be used on pardons/commutations for people falling with these certain categories. In lieu of that we can safely assume he did not know who he pardoned after 10:00 PM at night.

Over 4,000 clemencies, a record, 1500 in one day, another record, by someone who doesn't know what year it is, hasn't met w/ some of his cabinet members for over a yr., can't remember the name of some of them in addition to many other obvious signs of dementia, and only one wasn't done 'orally'. There's no way he knew the individual cases of each and every one.
Not that I fault him for pardoning Hunter. I would do the same for my son.

No, "we" can't safely assume that, but conspiracy theorists could. trump himself said he has no evidence that Biden abused the autopen or the process. Furthermore, "we" know that there is no law saying that pardons must even be signed, let alone signed by hand, because "we" do the research to uncover the facts. This CT can safely be filed with the Obama birth certificate and Pizzagate allegations. Once again, it's trump trying to deflect from the shitstorm caused by his Epstein files cover-up.

"Jay Wexler, a professor of constitutional law at Boston University School of Law, told NPR he thinks the autopen issue is a "nonstarter" and a "distraction." Importantly, he says, there is nothing in the Constitution that requires pardons be in writing at all.
