Criminals prefer unarmed victims; it isn't rocket science. A well-armed society, is a polite society, as long as the law-abiding citizens are who is armed.

The Media Lost Their Minds Over The New Florida Gun Law. But Violent Crime Dropped.

In July 2023, when Florida became the 26th state to adopt constitutional carry through House Bill 543, media outlets and Democrats unleashed a wave of criticism, predicting an increase in violent crime.

However, more than six months later, evidence has emerged that challenges these claims, showcasing a significant drop in violent crimes, including shootings, in the Sunshine State’s major cities.

Corporate media and anti-gun advocates were quick to condemn Florida’s move toward constitutional carry. Headlines such as “Following mass shootings, DeSantis signs permitless carry bill” from NBC News and Forbes amplifying rhetoric from gun control groups set the stage for a fierce debate.

Even the White House joined in, with Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre calling it “shameful” and the “opposite of commonsense gun safety.”

Contrary to the fearmongering, data now reveals a decline in violent crimes since the adoption of constitutional carry. In Jacksonville, murders and homicides dropped by 6 percent in 2023 compared to the previous year.

The most notable reduction occurred in Miami, where homicides went from 49 in 2022 to 31 in 2023 – the lowest recorded number in the Magic City. Additionally, non-fatal shootings in Miami decreased by 34 percent, and non-contact shootings saw a notable decline.

White libs just hate it when DeSantis expands the rights of Black Americans.

What a crap thread. Every nation that made guns rare has been rewarded with far fewer murders and suicides. Guns make society more dangerous. Many mass shooters go in expecting to be killed. How do guns scare them? People are shooting each other over and over in America. We have a mass shooting per day. What guns cannot produce is a more polite society. We have proven that clearly and unmistakably. https://www.cfr.org/backgrounder/us-gun-policy-global-comparisons

while all other forms of crime skyrocketed.

Guns make society more dangerous.
criminals make society more dangerous. gun controllers make it more so by denying effective means of self defense.

everything you said here is a lie.

Read the OP link FACTS and spare us your pro-dictatorship bullshit.

Back in the late 1980's Florida made it legal to carry a firearm. The press claimed there would be blood running in the streets. Instead, crime dropped like a rock.

Violent crime is dropping across America (with the exception of places with extreme trump support).

Florida is a failure. It has more than three times the murder rate of Massachusetts. One has to think that the Massachusetts Miracle is partly attributable to gun control.

Florida has 7 times the land mass and 23 million compared to 7 million in population. DUH!

ETA: and Florida doesn't have winters!

I can see how ignorant idiots can perceive this as a fact, however, wouldn't it be more likely that the reason there are less homicides is because law abiding people are disallowed the means to defend themselves with a gun, therefore they just comply with criminals in order to stay alive? If nobody is shot, no violent crime.

what are the crime stats for rape, robbery, assault, etc. ?

Murder rates are per capita, so your post is mostly pointless. There is a point that Massachusetts is more dense than Florida, so we would expect a higher murder rate in Massachusetts.

We all know that Massachusetts is doing things right, and Florida is not.

You cannot dispute the numbers I have posted. That is a fact. Look them up.

Massachusetts sent Ted "the killer" Kennedy to the senate until his drinking killed him. That speaks volumes...

Most murders are within social groups, not by muggers.

Anyway, Massachusetts has a lower violent and non-violent crime rate than Florida does. Florida has a real problem with people not feeling safe to report crimes, so it probably has much worse crime statistics than are being reported.

Crime is down overall across the entire nation, not just in DeathSantisLand. But yeah sure, guns.

Murder plummeted in the United States in 2023, likely at one of the fastest rates of decline ever recorded. What’s more, every type of Uniform Crime Report Part I crime with the exception of auto theft is likely down a considerable amount this year relative to last year according to newly reported data through September from the FBI.

Florida's crime rate, per your claims, is most likely due to gangs and drugs.........i'll grant you that on the social groups because of location and population demographics...........

in 2023, gun crimes in Mass. rose slightly, but still much lower than national average. what's difficult to ascertain is the rate of other violent crimes, mainly due to many law enforcement agencies not providing crime statistics or new methods of collecting data by the FBI not being compiled yet.

overall, while MA has one of the lowest crime rates in the nation, it is extremely hypothetical to declare that this is so due to strict gun control laws, especially because we all know that criminals don't follow the law.

That’s classic, “I sold my house,” what the f*ck is “I sold my house?” Got to be Trump’s “fat guy in Jersey” blogging from his bedroom in his mother’s basement

To make even funnier, “I sold my house” gets his “data” off of a Federalist opinion blog, which neglected to point out that all crime and homicides nationwide went down in 2023 not just Florida’s, and by the way, even decreasing, Florida’s homicide rate is still nearly double that of most of the gun restricted States

As I said classic, how many times can these lemmings continue on not realized they’ve been played
