The Lost Boys of the American Right

Second time in last two days I've seen a quote rewritten to turn it insultingly back on the member who posted it. Should be a banning violation of the rules, not merely intellectual cowardice.

It is designed to show how easily it is to make a legitimate argument by showing people the same things can be said about "the other" . It does take people engaging their minds though,....something in short supply these days.

It's designed to mock.

BTW,....your absolute hatred and fear of the tactic shows just how effective it can be. Oh,...is this the part where you claim to not have fear of it? Of course you do or you wouldnt wish you could SILENCE it.

Read rule 16, dummy.

Better yet, have an adult read it and explain it to you.

Also.....if this is something that you TRULY believe in,....could you please provide me a link of YOU reacting the same way to the hundreds of times left wing posters have altered the quotes of right wing posters as we all have seen many times? Thanks in advance. I like a person who stands up for what they truly believe in instead of being just another second rate partisan hack .

That is a liberal myth.

There is absolutely NO evidence for a Nixon Southern strategy. No speeches, no campaign posters, no flyers, ... zip, zero, nada.
Nixon worked with MLK to pass the FIRST cra, the 1957 CRA which was signed by Ike.

And Lee Atwater was still in High School when Nixon ran in '68.

Furthermore, way back in '36, FDR bought 75% of the Black vote and won 100% of the white lib kkk vote.

Yes there was.

What kind of evidence do you need?

Are you saying that Nixon didn't campaign in the South for the 72 election?

If you want proof Nixon nominated two people for a Supreme Court position who were both known to be against civil rights legislation.
And they were.

This was an appeal to the white voters in the South who were themselves known to be against civil rights legislation.

While Nixon himself actually did a lot of push for civil rights he still needed to shore up the white vote in the South.

That is just one example.

Your confusing Republicans with progressives, with what Republicans once were with what Republicans are now and have been since the "Solid Democrat South" became the "Solid Republican South". Nixon's "southern strategy" was the reverse of your idea of it; it was to exploit the fears of Southern whites over the expanding civil rights movement started in the Kennedy and Johnson years.

Isn't that what I said?

But yes, that's exactly what it was and the democrats turned it around because they knew they had lost the white vote, which they were also going after and used their own brand of fear to garner the blacks to their side which they still have today.

What is going on? Why are parts of the right — especially the young right — so infested with outright racists and bigots?

Some readers might respond to my question with a question: Why am I surprised? The right has always been infested with racists and bigots, you might argue. Yet while I freely acknowledge that there was more racism on the right than I was willing or able to see before the rise of Trump, there has been a distinct change in young right-wing culture. It is dramatically different from what it was when I was in college, in law school and starting my legal career.

What time does it start?

It is the White lib that still denies Black Americans an education, destroys their trad families, demonizes their religion, denies them police protection, etc..

No, I'm saying there is no evidence for a Nixon SS, and you haven't provided any.

"One of the pressing issues of Nixon’s first administration was school desegregation. Despite the unanimous ruling in Brown v. Board of Education Topeka (1954) and the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights Bill, 80 percent of schools remained segregated throughout the nation’s South.

In 1969, in another unanimous decision, the Supreme Court decided in Alexander v. Holmes County, “to terminate dual school systems at once and to operate now and hereafter unitary schools.”

The plan proved pivotal to the end of school segregation. In fall 1969, 600,000 blacks attended desegregated schools in the South; one year later 3 million had been integrated. By percentage in 1968, nearly 70 percent of black children were segregated from their white peers; by the end of Nixon’s first term it was just 8 percent.

Extending Civil Rights and Equality of Opportunity
President Nixon signed the Voting Rights Act of 1970, nationalizing the 1965 legislation and expanding its reach to northern states.

The Nixon administration ended discrimination in companies and labor unions that received federal contracts, and set guidelines and goals for affirmative action hiring for African Americans."

Kevin Phillips who worked on Nixon's campaign in "68 wrote a book called the "Emerging Republican Party", I believe it was called where he outlined that if the republicans could take the southern states they could win elections with minimal support elsewhere.

He is attributed with organizing the southern strategy for Nixon.

What Nixon did in office is irrelevant, it was about getting him into office.

"16. Quote Box Altering:

One can alter a quote box by removing some of a wall of text to expose the specific part you are responding to, or splitting it apart so you can respond to each item one at a time. However, altering the words posted and changing the meaning of what they said for whatever reason (a joke for instance) is not allowed unless you change the "quoted by" portion of the quote to make it clear that the original poster did not post what you are "making" them say. We will begin by deleting these posts, and if it continues we will get into banning. I will update this rule with changes until it settles in

I know You are smart and do your research. By 1948, there was not enough racism in the South for even a Dixiecrat racist like Strom Thurmond to win but a small minority of Southern States. Even with Truman desegregating the military only months before the election, Truman still won the South.

The most vile of the cretins had a small measure of shame even a decade ago.
They boasted about their moral shortcomings among themselves but were less comfortable making public spectacles of themselves.

Donald Trump showed them how to be shameless...how to be an insufferable asshole even on television.

That's the real damage perpetrated by Donald Trump, and we still haven't done much about it.
Give him an ankle monitor, take away his internet connections, and we'll see what happens.

Don't forget, a big part of the southern strategy was also the midterms in 74.

You don't have kids do you? Kids do what they do, they don't listen, you can only influence them so much. It's like they think for themselves or something like that. That was a major pain in my ass when they were under my roof but now that they're out in public and you don't know how to deal with them I have to admit I'm having a bit of a chuckle over your question.

Let's hope not. Those kids would be fucked up!
