The lengths Trump supporters go to

Just to defend the guy.

Who would have ever thought that Lee & the confederate army would be so celebrated? Our brave U.S. veterans from the south! And even though Lee led the fight to preserve slavery, Jefferson & Washington were the same! You're erasing our history - with his statue gone, how can anyone ever know and appreciate the greatness of General Lee?

I mean, there have even been some posts on here the past few days to the effect of "why is white supremacy such a bad thing?"

Is there a rock bottom from this crew? How does a pathological liar who will throw a surrogate or supporter under the bus in a millisecond if it gives him even one iota of advantage command such loyalty from his followers?

It's worth remembering that even though today nearly everybody is claiming they did not support George Dumbya and the Iraq War, we all remember that for 8 years of the Bush regime, jpp conservatives, almost to a man, were defending the Iraq War Disaster with every fiber of their being. Even though we all - everybody - knew the Iraq Disaster was a catastrophic mistake at least as early as mid-2004.

That is the mentality we are dealing with. You are never going to get Trump's fan boys this early in the game to admit they made a catastrophic mistake. They would feel like they would lose an incredible amount of face if they did. They are emotionally invested now.

So what do we end up with? Trumptards feeling compelled to defend Nazis, Klansmen, and to become the Kremlin's newest fan boys.

oh great. the sanctimonious twosome are gonna tell us how evil Trump supporters are while singling their virtue.

I've observed - and I think it's pretty obvious - that they don't care about right or wrong, or even good or evil. The main thing for them now, as it was with Iraq, is not conceding a thing to liberals & the "media elites." If they dared to criticize Trump for an obviously horrible reaction to Charlottesville, they'd be giving liberals and the media a "win", at least from their perspective.

It was the same w/ Iraq, until Dubya was out of office. Once he was out, it wasn't as necessary to defend him anymore, so it was all "huh? Wha happened?"

In our great democracy, your vote is a reflection of your values. Of your character, in some ways.

This is a message board. Maybe you are a fine person in real life. The only think I can judge you on is not only your vote for Drumpf, but your unrelenting defense of him, of white nationalists, and of the Kremlin.

As long as you only provide lame responses like this one, I am proud to do so.
look at your OP. who is making claims that Jefferson and Lincoln also need to come down?
It's radical left.
he same logic that would erase the Confederacy from modern memory could just as easily train its lens on the disturbing attitudes of the Lincolns and Jeffersons.

Minority students have already been leading the charge to remove the name of Woodrow Wilson, an avowed segregationist, from Princeton’s School of Public and International Affairs and from its public squares.

At Georgetown, students persuaded school officials to rename buildings that honored former Georgetown presidents who had also been slave owners.

And at Harvard, students demanded changes to the university’s official seal, which pays tribute to Isaac Royall Jr., who gave his estate to the law school but also came from a family that made a fortune in the slave trade.

you don't pay attention to what doesn't fit your pre-conceptions.

Many a time I criticize TRump's tweets - some for being trollish-but for no other reason then he steps on his own message.

I do not defend Putin as much as offer a deeper look at why he does what he does.
You like to demonize him without any constructive path forward. what I consistently preach.

I never defend anyone because of their racist views -Nazi's or "white nationals" - what you fail to understand
is economic natonalism is inclusive to all Americans

we dont want to give you this win or any win at all because when we give an inch you take a mile. There are already liberal leaders calling for the removal of washington and lincoln after trumps conference.

very true.
they are incapable of what John Kerry used to preach- "nuance"- they are all Lucifer modeled in their mind
and the proof is the hysteria is growing to include Lincoln and Jefferson..

I advocate a case by case basis, and it should not just be a vote without some sort of historical commission
looking at a communities memorials-all of them. so they can make an informed vote.

But the cops won't even stop the vandals, so a measured response in not gonna happen by the antifa/cultural radicals

Not just trump supporters:

A majority of Americans support the statues staying up. Many believe for historical reasons. Not just trump supporters, not just racists. Normal everyday americans.

Why aren't we taking down statues of martin luther king for being homophobic? Please answer honestly. MLK said gay people should go to psychiratrists and said being gay was a problem that needed fixing. This is not in accordance with our modern values.

By framing the narrative in the form of historical statues Trump actually got the issue to work for us ^__^ we will have bigger majorities after 2018

You really don't understand symbolism, do you?

What about the symbolism of being pro-lgbt?

Sounds like you don't believe in an objective reality. You sound very post-modern. Making up your own realities, wishing for feels over reals, wanting some statues to come down because the person is no longer in accordance with modern values, but wanting other statues to stay up even though they also did things not in accordance with modern values. There is no underlying objective principle that you have, no consistency. Just that you want some to come down and others to not, based on the subjective symbols you wish to impose. Fucking scary.

In any case, I proved above that a MAJORITY of AMERICANS want to keep the CONFEDERATE statues. By a very large margin. You keep trying to take down these statues, you overplay your hand. Your whole thread is moot.

One more time:

Here's how it goes, Trump supporters. Jefferson owned slaves. But he wrote the Declaration of Independence, and his rhetoric set the foundation for equal rights for all in America. That is what he represents to most Americans: freedom, independence, justice & equal rights. These are the things he fought for.

Lee was the general of the confederate army, and fought - hard - to preserve slavery. Personally, he may have been an extremely honorable man, and had his own views on slavery. But, in public life, he fought to keep people enslaved, and this is what he is known for. It is what he represents to most Americans.

So, a statue of Jefferson is cool with most - he symbolizes freedom & equal rights, and the gov't is expressing that by honoring him w/ a statue. Lee's statue is a symbol of the fight to preserve slavery; he was literally the leader of that cause.

See the difference?
