A fertilized egg is composed of human material. It is not a human being. Country folk may eat fertilized chicken eggs for breakfast but they are not eating scrambled chickens for breakfast. And squirrels collect and bury acorns, not oak trees.

The question is in what grade did you drop out?

Birth is much like death. It is a transition and all transitions have a somewhat arbitrary demarcation. When does a human being become a corpse? The moment they stop breathing? The moment their heart stops but their brain is still functioning? After the brain completely shuts down? The typical elderly person in a hospital will not have an EEG monitoring and will be declared dead the moment they take their last breath. Are we going to bicker over the exact second?

My view does not spit in the face of scientific knowledge. DNA can tell if something is composed of human material. That is all. It can not tell if the piece of DNA is from a liver or a gob of spit so unless one believes we can spit human beings it would be wise to re-think their position.
