except for nixon

if the reps had someone like eisenhower, i would still be a republican

but they do not

oh well

Ever since Eisenhower it has been a beauty contest. The left whines about money in politics. ehhh The biggest problem is that we elect people based on looks and pretense ever since the tv era. An honest man cannot win. You can no longer ever have been wrong just mistaken.

It's part of that perfection vs greatness issue. People can't identify greatness so they settle for flawless. Anything you've done, ever, will come back to bite you in the ass.

You don't fully understand the metaphor. It is not JUST looks.

Nixon pretended to be superhuman. I mean Bill Clinton was fat and had a nose that looked like WC Fields. A lot of it is swagger and how good you look in jeans. Signs of humility are suicide.

Quit pretending that your guys are perfect or even better by much.

Again, Clint says you are all number one. He meant it too.

I liked Gerald Ford. I loved hs golfing, I loved his clumsiness, I loved his humanness, I loved All the material he gave Chevy Chase for SNL.

I've read the 1956 Republican platform. Good lord by todays Republican parties standards Ike would be a communist. I'd still be a Republican if they represented main stream American values like Ike did.

That's not true. Unlimited amounts of money being dumped into politics with out full disclosure as to where that money is coming from is a big problem but the biggest problem in our body politics is the party primary system. We need to switch to a top two run off primaries in which all candidates, regardless of party affiliation are placed on the ballot and the top two vote getters will compete in a run off election for that office. The current primary system combined with gerrymandering rewards those who take the most etreme partisan positions which is largely responsible for the gridlock we see. A top two primary system would force politicians back towards the mainstream and force them to be representative to the larger constituency and not just the politically active base.

Ford was a profile in courage. He did a lot to repair the damage of the absolute worst President in my life time, Richard Nixon (may he rott in hell), that was very unpopular.

Bush 43 was far worse than Nixon

true, tricky dick was paranoid and a megalomaniac, but bushco did more to screw up the nation than any president in at least a century

what is weird is that he was not a bad person, but a really bad president...and cheney was a terrible vice president

bummer
