Here are the reasons why: When President Lincoln was POTUS who used slaves and others to support the Union Cause to liberate America from atrocities associated with the barbaric confederacy, in particular, it was his Union Army that included slaves and freedmen too that came to the rescue of civilization at some point to go forward and to the height of the passage of the 1964 Civil Rights laws, etc. of the U.S. This historical event resulted at giving all Americans and regardless of who they are federal rights to be accommodated and be liberated members of U.S. society:

I agree or was it First Lady Nancy Reagan that avoided nuclear engagements back in the early 1980's to which her husband President Reagan was suffering the ongoing effects of his Alzheimer's problem? Any good answers would be appreciated. Even though it was a terrifying time of that day, but life went on.

Regan's admin wrote books after his presidency, stating that Ronnie was being handled like a child due to inchoate Alzheimer's. The press conferences were very narrow in subject matter and he was carefully scripted. They dreaded that he would go off-topic because he could say anything. They all knew he had problems, but they were not going to let the people know.
