The gun debate is paralyzed by our past

"The battle over the Supreme Court and the meaning of the Constitution also has echoes in Civil War-era clashes. In his 2021 “The Crooked Path to Abolition: Abraham Lincoln and the Antislavery Constitution,” historian James Oakes traced the radical differences in how anti-slavery forces in the North and defenders of slavery in the South read the nation’s founding document."

The data on gun laws and death rates overlap. The two states with the lowest rates of gun deaths, Hawaii and Massachusetts, are among those with the toughest gun measures. The two with the highest gun death rates, Mississippi and Louisiana, were ranked among those with the weakest firearms legislation.

Correlation is not causation, Idiot.

For example both Mass and Hawaii are highly educated states.

Which sorta supports his point, the higher education recognize the logic of gun regulation, and vice versa. You are correct, one indicator doesn't support causation, but a collection of several does lead to a conclusion

In the US there have been 96 events classed as “mass shootings” since 2000.

In the UK there have been 2.

Either the US has proportionately 10 times as many murderous nutjobs as the UK, or they have far easier access to the means of mass shooting, i.e. guns.

If you think the answer may be the latter, please bear in mind that this is their constitutional right so they can form a well-regulated militia. Otherwise they would be living under tyranny like the UK.

The UK is tyrany.
People are jailed there for publicly stating their opinion.

Or smarter people don't shoot each other as often.

The "gun debate" is paralyzed by the morons who think guns are the "problem" instead of the REAL PROBLEM: CRIMINALS.

I found one of those tyrannical actions!

Anjem Choudary, who preached hate over two decades with seeming impunity from legal punishment, has been jailed for five years and six months for his activities to support Islamic State.

The judge said: “The jury were sure that you knowingly crossed the line between the legitimate expression of your own views and the criminal act of inviting support for an organisation which was at the time engaged in acts of terrorism.”

It would never have happened if British Islamists all had guns.

What's paralyzing our debate are the Republicans and the gun lobby. Eliminate either of those and we'd be able to get the military killing machines off the street. So, Dems just have to come out in big numbers and vote over the next 2 cycles. There's nothing the Dems could do to please the gun lobby anyway.. so no big deal.

And so now you've it on the issue currently holding the Republican party hostage. White supremacy. The Civil War was all about white supremacy, the attack on 1/6.. guess what the common thread was motivating those fucks? White Supremacy? Wow got it on the first guess! Woohoo.... :(

You're screwing up the rule. It's "Correlation does not necessarily mean causation".

Unfortunately, with gun laws it is. Better gun regulations mean fewer deaths.

But nice try.

Alright! You said it better.. to be fair, I'm only on my first Monster energy drink this morning :(

Wow! Would you look at that irrefutable proof better gun regulations work.

Now, watch Ted Cruz set a speed record trying to run away from those facts!

Well, look at that! She wasn't lying. People are jailed in the UK.. except we're talking about criminal diaper stains. We jail those kind of soulless fucks in EVERY sensible, non-hate country.
