The great blizzards of 2026

For once,..I agree with you on something. :) It really isn't their fault though,....they just don't have the experience when it comes to driving in it. What we take for granted and drive in every day for months at a time they have no clue how to handle. Pro tip for you southies................For real,......When coming up to a stopping situation on ice, well in advance take your car out of drive and put it in neutral. it will take the power off your tires and you will slow down and stop with no problems without sliding past.
How many snow plows does your country have? Dallas country has one. I'm not sure why they even bother. We have 3,728 centerline miles of state-maintained roadways, which translates to over 11,574 total lane miles.

When people move here they register their vehicles, almost nobody here is actually from here. And 300 out of millions is nothing. I watched Dallas turn into an ice rink and well over 300 vehicles damaged in just blocks... the difference between the two, even with the transplants, is striking.
They were over confident people from Colorado.

Our county,...pretty small population as it is has 15 or so that are county owned. But,.....every town and city in it has LOTS. so in my little city they have 11. So,..in my county I would estimate there are around,...hmmm...maybe 50 or so including it all together.

And which of the two has snow plows? Asking for a friend.
One inch of snow? No plows would come out in either place, but there would be craptons more accidents in Dallas. Shoot, in CO we wouldn't hardly change anything and accidents would be at a normal level.

Yep we don't have good road prep. You guys cat drive on poorly prepped roads with I have seen first hand.
We have a lot of problems up here with highways and roads. The frost line goes down four feet into the ground which means a lot of cracking and buckling no matter what you do which means a lot of maintenance . Up here if you build a home with a basement under it,....which EVERYONE does,...the code requires footings to be dug and poured with concrete at that four foot level.

To me a blizzard is when the plows can't keep up with the snow so they shut the place down and everyone gets out their snowmobiles to spend the day with family and friends.

I rest my case.

Snow in Colorado is powdery and does not stick well. I have sweep powder off the tennis courts to play tennis. Try that with wet snow  Snow in Texas tends to be wet and is frequently preceded by ice. This time we had an inch of ice then a couple inches of snow. Makes for dangerous driving I just stayed home till it melted off.

Yeah,....I think up here its at least 2 inches for plows to go out.

Yep my grand kids were off of school for 3 days they had a great time sledding.

I cant even imagine living in a house without a basement. All that lost square footage! The norm here is to totally finish off at least half of it and the other half is for storage, mechanicals, and laundry. My finished half is my man cave complete with stone gas fireplace and of course.....a BAR. Its Wisconsin dude,....There are bars EVERYWHERE,....even at home.

At least the undersides of our cars don't rot out from corrosion.

Do they treat your overpasses and bridges for less than two inches of snow?

My home is 4500 square feet I have two dens and a living room and a finished room over my shop with a pool table. Construction without a basement is cheaper to do.

And this is exactly WHY...........I built a little place wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy down south! While Im sipping on bacardi's looking at the Gulf of AMERICA I'll be calling my buddies back home and needling them! In fact,....we're leaving again on the 22nd. Cant wait!
