We live in extreme, crazy times, so extreme, crazy candidates like Le Pen have much better chances. She is doing far better than her father ever did. He never even got a fifth of the vote in a national election.

My interest is in how elections are manipulated by external forces. Somehow- without most of us realizing it- democracy was turned to shit.

Le Pen's father was a Neo-Nazi before Le Pen was even born. The Le Pen name has been the name in French Neo-Nazism for almost 60 years now.
The younger Le Pen has been trying to soften the Neo-Nazi image, and make them more electable. For instance, rather than continue the elder Le Pen's fight to disprove the Holocaust, the younger Le Pen expelled her father from the party. They have been making death threats back and forth to each other ever since.
The younger Le Pen has found that if she can become a party that gets some votes, the Russians will pay her. Much of her money comes either directly or indirectly from Putin. Putin is much more open about his support of the Neo-Nazi Le Pen than trump.

2 people shot dead by police in Paris amid protests – media
Officers opened fire on a vehicle after the passengers “refused to comply”
Two people were killed in Paris amid election protests on Sunday evening after police fired at a vehicle, following a ‘refusal to comply’, AFP news agency reported. The vehicle reportedly tried to run the officers over at Pont Neuf, and one of them fired his weapon.
The driver and one passenger died; another sitting in the back seat was injured.
The driver reportedly stopped at the request of the police, but during the check, he suddenly took off and drove towards the officers. According to the media, one of the police officers shot with a rifle several times in self defense.
