The Electoral Count

With the Republicans opposing the auto industry bailout, I suspect the Democrats will suprise you in Michigan.

dream on......GM announced today they are stopping production of the Volt and laying off workers.....you know the 20% of residents we lost on the east side of the state?......Democrats......

Because he is in denial and he thinks everyone in michigan is a wingnut like him. Anyone else with an IQ over 20 realizes Romney screwed the pooch on the GM/Chrysler bailout adn that shit won't fly in michigan.

so tell me, do you seriously think Obama will win in Ohio?......

That's funny; you just heard about that.

Overall, GM has been going gangbusters since the bailout.

first of all, yes.....I just heard about it....in fact, I read about it here on another thread.....and Ford, which didn't get a bailout and didn't get turned over to union ownership is doing just as well......that would lead some to believe it wasn't the bailout that brought about the gangbusters.......

Who would believe that? Ford was doing okay anyway; GM wasn't.

That's like saying Apple didn't need a bailout...

First off, I would say it is far to early to be counting electoral college votes. 8 months is a life time in a political race. That being said, the Republicans do seem to be engaging in a great deal of bloodletting in the primaries. Reagan's 11th commandment, "Thou shalt not speak ill of another republican", is not being obeyed and by the end of the primary season, that may end up hurting the survivor. The other thing to consider is that the Republican convention may very well end up being a brokered convention. The last time that happened was 1976. Reagan did well against Ford in many primaries and there were many uncommitted delegates going into the convention. There was lots of infighting, conservatives were FURIOUS when Reagan announced that he would pick Richard Schweiker of PA as his VP and Jesse "Jim Crow" Helms tried to nominate James Buckley for President. If no one goes into the convention a clear winner it could be a floor fight which would make the Republicans appear to lack unity. In what should be an easy election year for the Republican party, the candidates are doing their best to help the party implode.

i agree with everything you said, except that this should be an "easy" year for the pubs.

This year was a softball for "pubs." Have you seen the economy?

You must've taken those extra-strength hack pills tonight. You're on a real roll.

Look - we all know that you understand very little, and know even less. Would you really contend that Ford was in anywhere near the situation that GM was?

I'd love to hear that argument. Really.

you mean apart from a massive debt obligation for union worker pensions?.......yes......you are aware, I hope, that union pensions were the only thing bailed out in the auto industry, right?.......if you weren't then YOU were the one who knew even less.......

That has exceedingly little to do w/ the difference between Ford & GM at that time.

Ford didn't need a bailout; GM did. Period.

Yeah, as much as Reagan's second term should have been "easy" for the Dems... Did you see the economy?

What I see happening now is, the republican candidates allowing the President to define the argument. If it continues, it won't be an "easy" year for the republicans regardless of the economy.

Jeez, Damo - that was almost 30 years ago. But you're right. Good on you.

Many of the polls also reflect the "wishes" of people who will vote for Romney later to be somebody else. Those who really want Santorum will say that they won't vote for Romney in the polls in the hopes that it will cause others to vote against him in the primary.

During a primary with 4 candidates, many people who support 1 over the rest will try to sway others by saying they'll never vote for so-and-so during a poll, but later when they are the candidate they not just support them, but more "loudly" than others.

Thats a stretch.
