Whether or not the Republican Party is dying, party registration in general is diminishing.
More and more people register as independents,
and independents are independents,
usually because they have no ideology at all.
There's the old cliché that people who stand for nothing will fall for anything,
and why shouldn't that be attributed to independents?
With the major parties so starkly different today,
how is it possibly to not see where one is more is more palatable to you than the other?
If you're not working with one of them, you're not really in the game.
You can't contribute to anything being done all by yourself.
You're merely exercising your prerogative to be petulant, aren't you?.
One excuse many independents give is
that the parties have become so extreme that they can't really commit to either one.
Well, first, that premise is entirely wrong.
If we can remove our debilitating provincialism for a moment,
and look at things from a sophisticated, cosmopolitan viewpoint,
only the Republican Party is extreme.
By the world's standards, the Republican party is lunatic right,
and the Democratic Party is center-right.
I'm on meds because of how disgusting being a Democrat is to me,
but if I'm not one,
I'm helping the Republicans and thus unworthy to use my own family's name.
I would truly deserve an excruciating end.
I don't deserve that. Instead, I try to push my party further left from within.

The democrats HATED Thomas Jefferson, and he was none to found of them.
The filthy and shameful democrat party comes from Aaron Burr (convicted of treason) and Andrew Jackson (trail of tears).
While Jefferson's party had at one time been called "Democratic Republicans" it was just "Republicans" by 1800. The reason Lincoln's revived Republicans used "Grand Old Party" was homage to Jefferson and the original Republican party.
The democrats have never been the party of Jefferson, they are the party of Jackson.

Hint: They don't give a shit about banning books, going after LGBTQ ppl, "woke" nonsense, CRT, trans athletes barred from competition, defunding libraries, censoring teachers, and other things near and dear to Reichwing hearts. They care about the economy, inflation, student loan debt, abortion access, gun regulation -- things that the (D)s also exhibit concern for.
The Democrats care about the economy. They want to destroy it.
The Democrats care about student loan debt. They want to steal from others to forgive it.
The Democrats care about abortion. They want to murder children.
The Democrats care about guns. They want to ban and limit them and discard the Constitution.
