The Daily injustice report vol. 38

* A Duluth Georgia police officer was found guilty by a jury on 9 counts including aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during a felony, battery, and terroristic threats over a bizarre incident where he wrecked while drunk, flagged down a motorist and asked for help, then attacked the motorist and threatened to kill her, then opened fire at responding police… he was finally subdued by an officer while still pulling the trigger on his emptied handgun.

* Chicago Illinois could be set to settle a lawsuit for $6,300,000 to a veteran who was wrongfully convicted for rape and imprisoned for 25 years when the city’s now-disbanded crime lab withheld exculpatory DNA evidence that would have cleared him.typical prosecutorial misconduct, yet qualified immunity will protect him.

* A third Tybee Georgia police officer has resigned in the wake of the tasering of an autistic teenager. The charges against the teen have been dropped while one other officer is still on paid leave over the incident.

* An Orange County California deputy was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and released the same day on bail but few other details were released due to that state’s law enforcement bill of rights… bet you feel more secure knowing they have an extra set of rights that you don’t have.so much for 'equal protection under the laws'

* A Lower Township New Jersey police detective is under investigation while 30 drug cases have been dismissed due to the mishandling of confidential informants.

* The police chief of Marion Wisconsin has been sentenced to probation for negligent homicide in Michigan where she turned into the path of a 50-year-old motorcyclist and killed him while driving an SUV. If Marion sound familiar the same chief was convicted for forgery recently in a different case involving the use of a fake name in order to get ephidrine at a pharmacy.how the hell is this person still a cop, much less a chief of police?

* A Texas Dept of Public Safety trooper has been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty to a battery charge for choking a man at his church and a theft charge for swapping tags on items at a local department store.surely you or I would receive the same justice, right?

* A Camden New Jersey police officer was sentenced to probation for ordering women into his truck and cruiser under color of law while in his uniform just to grope and molest them, both while on duty and off.

* A Marysville California police officer has resigned after his former girlfriend, also an officer in a different agency, got an emergency protection order against him on allegations of sexual assault. The officer isn’t facing any charges though.

* Seven Sarasota County Florida anti-drug team deputies have been suspended without pay for periods ranging from 3-6 days for conduct unbecoming after being too rowdy at a local bar where they allegedly harassed bar staff and patrons then apparently took each others pictures in varied states of dress in the bathroom.

* A Mathis Texas police officer has been ordered not to carry any firearms and to outfit his car with a breathalyzer interlock after testing positive for cocaine use prior to his trial on a DUI charge for when he was stopped after 1:00am with his unrestrained 3-year-old daughter standing on the front seat of his car.

* A North Carolina State trooper has resigned after he was arrested on drunk driving and hit and run charges for fleeing the scene of an accident after running a red light, only to be caught over an hour later while smelling of alcohol.

* The Naperville Illinois police department and an A&E film crew is the subject of a lawsuit alleging that they tried to coerce a man who was ill to sign a waiver allowing footage of him to be on their show and then using the footage anyway even though he refused. He was cited for traffic violations but threw up during the stop, which was caught on camera. Guess humiliating people with the power of the state makes for T.V. that’s too good to pass up.correct me if i'm wrong, but isn't Illinois one of the few states where BOTH parties must consent to being recorded? chicago police have charged citizens with major felonies for violating this law while filming cops in public, why aren't these naperville cops being charged?

* And finally, the town of Luzerne Pennsylvania is starting up a new police department after not having one for several years. While one would think that a new department is a chance at starting things off right the town is already going down the wrong road as two of the police officers they hired were fired from previous agencies and one of those cops has a criminal record… Guess they could learn a thing or two from another police department that used to pride itself on being a police officer’s department of last resort.
