The coming extinction of social conservatives

Just my two cents... but what would drive them towards religion? I think (but could be wrong) that the normal trend is that more fall away from religion as they get older. Not the reverse.

You hear about people that either have events in their life that turn them to God later on decide they want to try it. Not saying that it is a big number by any means.

Edit: lr is also in Oklahoma where I believe people on the whole tend to be more religious. With that background I was curious if thought they may turn towards God later.

I know people that has happened to. Usually after a big life threatening scare to themselves or someone close. But I think those people are significantly outnumbered by those that fade away from religion as they get older. Again... just an opinion.

I threw an edit in there to add lr being from Oklahoma I was just curious if he thought they would come around because the state is more religious.

Yes, we do tend to be more "religious," but I think the trend even here is away from religion. Like I said, this 9th grade bunch is a unique group of kids from more broken homes than is the norm around here. I think I only have 9 out of 18 kids whose parents are still together. A couple of them live with grandma or an aunt or uncle. I can really tell a difference in the behavior and performance of this group of kids and neither is positive. But I'm hopeful for them and have worked harder trying to reach the with the material than any class before them.

As technology improves with each passing decade, we have learned more and more about the human genome, we have learned to detect heart beat and brain waves far earlier than thought possible 30 years ago etc... The more the tech improves, the more you are going to see abortion come back to the forefront. Those of you who dehumanize the unborn child will become more and more embarrassed for your ignorance.

As the religious fundies are given their appropriate consideration on issues of science (none at all) and morality (very little) the issue will fade. The religious might even return to their more sensible stance on the issue.

AS technology improves the issue should be revisited, I hope that with advances on both the contraception and area of early fetal survival Abortion will become a thing of the past.

I am sad to report that from where I sit, this is exactly the truth. And as I have just gone through my last class of the day, a class full of mostly religion-less 9th graders (at this point 14-15 year olds), my heart weeps for the future of my country.

With what organized Religion has become, for the most part, this is a good thing for the future of our world. Jesus did not want such churches to develop.

A person who wants the Government to be able to decide who can get married is not a true libertarian.

I said he has never been a straight Libertarian. You said that wasn't supported by the facts yet the example you give above is evidence that he's not a large L Libertarian.

Okay, I see your point. The guy is barely a libertarian, he uses the label for votes and to hide from the Republican desire to meddle in people's lives on social issues.

We will definitely get better at contraception. We have done very little to improve early fetal survival and not for lack of effort. The viability limit of 22-24 weeks is not likely to change much at all.

He is a libertarian leaning Republican. I think we fall into this trap of saying to be this (Libertarian, Republican, Democrat, Green etc.) you must only support these policies. On issues like spying, drugs, foreign policy etc. he is very libertarian leaning.

funny thing is... while the advancements allow us to detect events earlier and earlier... it doesn't change how the unborn child develops. Should we not err on the side of caution as long as the womans life is not in danger? The other exception being a case of rape.

Then your views are right with theirs, for you ignore science when it goes against your philisophical beliefs.

Just like us Oklahoma Democrats are supposed to be just like every other Democrat on every issue. Everyone doesn't fit neatly into nice little boxes.

Clearly, it is your views that are in line with theirs. You make a charade of it being based on science but you are as anti science as Jenny.
