You only get paid for food if you are in the federal military. These troops are not formally in the federal military. trump is trying to save money by not feeding them.
Again, they are not deployed. They are verbally ordered to be there. They have been federalized, but not formally federalized.
I never thought this was possible. Congress apparently never thought we would have a president willing to rip off soldiers with guns, but trump is that guy.
Legally speaking, they are private citizens, so no food is brought to them. The logistics people at the Pentagon have been ordered not to support them, so they are not even planning to get them food.
If soldiers are stuck buying their own food, they get BAS II, which works out to $960 a month, but these troops are not in the federal system, so they get nothing.
Not only that, but they have no DOD credit cards to buy fuel. So the officers are being required to buy the diesel for the trucks with their own money. They are maxing out their credit cards, and may get reimbursed... Or maybe not. If they get reimbursed, it will not be for the interest on their credit cards. And they only have 90 days to apply for reimbursement, and cannot even start until they get formally federalized... Which trump is delaying.
There is an entire court case of Newsom trying to get these National Guard troops out of the trap trump has laid for them.

It has been two weeks now. What usually happens is that the orders are signed, and then a phone call is made to get the orders implemented before the paper orders can be delivered. The phone call happened, saying the order was signed, but the order has not been signed.
Once again, it has been two weeks now. We are meant to believe that trump has been unable to find the time to sign the orders in two weeks.
They are not called up National Guard members. Newsom has not called them up, and cannot while they are federalized. They are not federalized either. So they are private citizens when it comes to feeding them.

First, posts that start with "so you think" are always, and I do mean always, a strawman argument. It is an attempt to put words in their mouth that you think you can argue "better" (though I submit you cannot argue coherently regardless of the fact you are arguing against your own strawman).
I think that putting them in court regarding federalization has held them in limbo until the case was decided.
In fact, now that the courts have ruled on that particular item I believe that issue will be resolved.
In your universe, if a prisoner is being held in prison, until a court case is decided, it is perfectly fine to not feed him?
It does not take two weeks to sign orders. These are orders that trump claimed he had already signed. If this was not in a major city, where there is fantastic food that can be gotten peacefully, it would be an extreme disaster. Having troops split off into small groups going to fast food joints would be a disaster if this were a real combat situation. They would be massacred.
And remember, even if they do get reimbursed, it will only be after a long court case, and they will not get paid interest. If trump stretches this out past 90 days, they will not even get to apply for reimbursement, much less have a court case.
Whatever trump's motives, troops are paying the price for his lie. trump lied and said the orders to federalize them had been signed.

Now we have moved on to why trump is doing this to the troops. They are not being covered by federal health insurance Tricare, so if any get hurt, they are really screwed. I know that LA is extremely peaceful, but people get hurt by accident all the time.
