LOL An appropriate picture. All those who claim "I can't be racist because I have XYZ friends or I'm married to an XYZ" are just as likely to be liars as those who are now politicals extremists for one side and periodically claim they used to be on the other side.
FWIW, while chronic liars are interesting, the deeper psychology of a person who not only went from one party to another (common with aging) went to the most extreme side of that party. THOSE people I find very interesting. It's like being an entomologist but having a simple liking of one bug type over another. As such, some of those who are extremist and claim to have been with the other party may be telling the truth. The key is that their behavior will reveal enough for people to think, "Yeah, you crazy fuck, I believe you."
