FoxNews recently announced they expect Republicans to gaining 20 seats in the Senate. There are 36 seats up for election, but only 14 of them are Democrats, so the most Republicans can gain is 14 seats. Even that is not a real possibility. There are only 11 competitive seats, with 5 of them held by Democrats. The most that Republicans could really gain is 5... But that would be a long shot. A more realistic possibility is one or two, with Democrats having a slightly lower possibility of adding one or two.
That is not a tidal wave.
The House has been so extremely gerrymandered that it is even worse. There are only about 40 seats that are competitive, with slightly less than half of them held by Democrats. The most the Republicans could gain is 18 or 19. A more realistic number is 10, or less. They need 8, and probably have a 50/50 chance of getting there.
The popular vote is only important in seeing the direction of the country, but it is worth looking at. It is unlikely that Republicans will get the majority of the popular vote. Sorry.
