The Alt Right

You and I have coastal differences on what makes up ethnic communities. Here we have the Italian neighborhoods, German neighborhoods, Polish neighborhoods, Lithuanian neighborhoods, Jewish neighborhoods, middle European neighborhoods in addition to the black and Hispanic neighborhoods. These are within the city of Pittsburgh.

Our Asian population is very small. And if you're talking about the 'burbs I would say they are predominantly white but aren't counted as part of the City demographics.
Baltimore and Pittsburg are similar in that regard.
It's what makes a city so interesting to live in.
Baltimore however is a dumping ground for the mid-Atlantic poor, (an incorporated city) while surrounding counties are the richest in the nation.
So a lot of that diversity is disappearing

I've only been up that way one time -and really enjoyed the place ( before the Ravens and the Steelers became rivals) :) * just kidding*

I think it's about economics more than self segregation. People generally live in the best neighborhood they can afford.

Christie was speaking out against neighborhoods dominated by one race and it turns out she lives in one of the most one race dominated areas in the country.

I personally don't live in an all-white area and you only have part of the facts. The City of Pittsburgh is 66% white and 26% black.

San Francisco is very similar. There's that famous quote from the guy in New York who said "tell me a person's last name and I'll tell you where he lives" (what neighborhood)

I got the impression from the Milwaukee article you didn't like the divisions of neighborhoods/cities like this however?

I think it's an east coast thing. The early waves of immigrants came from Europe, not Asia or Mexico.

I haven't been to Baltimore yet but would like to see the Inner harbor and other tourist sites. And I'd be respectful and not wear my Le'Veon Bell shirt. :)

Not particularly.

Didn't xenophobic white nationalists oppose the Irish, Italian, Asian and Jewish immigrants to America in the 19th and 20th centuries? The alt right has a long, shameful history.

it is. look how far away the east coast is from Asia.
I remember going to some bakery up in Pittsburg, and the Allegany river(?).
I was there on a business meeting -so I didn't have much time to sight-see, but it reminded me of the Polish neighborhoods of east Baltimore
where my grandmother lived her life.

One thing I miss in Florida is decent bakeries.
Most of the Mexican type bakeries have blue icing, and weird mango stuff.

C'mon on down and eat some crab soup/crab cakes..lol..leave the Steelers gear behind :)

I saw that (I thought I posted it in my previous post). I was unaware how white the suburbs were however.

I didn't click on the link but didn't notice those particular numbers. Also I find this statement to be misleading: "The seven-county metro Pittsburgh is the whitest area of its size in the country at 87 percent;"

Those counties are mostly rural and blacks tend to be centered in urban areas. The counties touch WVA (95% white) and SE Ohio (also mostly white but I couldn't find a number).

They were treated like trash, frankly.

Used and abused for the kind of work the snooties thought was beneath them.

I doubt he has any interest in demographics. His primary concern (other than his creepy fixation on Y O U) is derailing every one of your threads with off-topic stuff.

How do we change that? Force all rural people to move to the city or force blacks to move out of the city to have better neighborhood diversity?
