Reparations to slaves would be payments made for the slavery, not the emancipation. The 14th Amendment bans payments to the slave owners for the loss of their slaves, not payments to the slaves for having been slaves.

We can all agree that Texting Driver is just wrong. This is not a moral question. Whether slavery reparations are right or wrong, workable or unworkable, they are not banned by the 14th Amendment.

Usually reparations would flow to the descendants. I am not arguing that it is a good idea to try to make settlements to something that was so long ago, but that is the way it would work.

Whatever we say, it is not banned by the 14th Amendment.

"Any claim for the loss or emancipation of any slave", but reparations are not a claim for emancipation, but for the actual slavery. The 14th Amendment does not ban reparations for slavery, just payments for loss of slaves.

The 14th Amendment bans the payment to slave owners for the loss of slaves, not payment to slaves for being slaves. You cannot "interpret" that fact away.

The Constitution will not automatically say what you want it to say.
