Texas: Time to get rid of it.

It hilarious. The right loses an election after consolidated power and suddenly wants to secede from the union for things that have gone on for the past 50 years. It's laughable.

have you seen the list of states that have submitted or passed state resolutions about secession or the 10th amendment? It's not all red states or even southern states.

now, can you answer the question?

The depth of right-wing idiocy knows no boundaries.

The fact that some can try to invent justification for such a monumentally ignorant thought is simply amazing.

Let's see the show of hands of anyone who actually thinks Texas is REALLY considering detaching itself from the United States .. beyond the usual cowboy bluff that doesn't amount to shit and they would never have the balls to actually do.

This isn't even a serious question.

Like North Korea, Texas is just looking for a little attention. :)

Again, BAC, have you seen the list of states that have discussed this?

No, they cannot recognize, or refuse to do so, where they have brought us. They will only recognize where Bush brought us. We know where Bush brought us, we point to what is in front of the car, but they just tell us to "stop being backseat drivers".

ah, the old fallback of 'ignorance is bliss' crap.

It would solve a lot of problems if Texas left. We'd have a new toxic waste dump, somewhere to send Republicans, 34 less conservative electors, 2 fewer conservative senators and 32 fewer conservative reps. It would basically be an orgasmic dream scenario.

Again, BAC, have you seen the list of states that have discussed this?

If you mean have I seen a list of states that have people in that state dumb enough to consider this .. yes I have.

Doesn't change my point one iota, nor does it detract from the reality that this is right-wing republican inspired.

Do you think anyone seriously believes that Texas or any other state would seriously consider detaching itself from the United States?

I may surprise some but I actually agree with you on this. I don't think any state would really seceed at this point. But I do think some conservative states are using this as a way to get their complaints with some of the things going on exposed to the rest of the country in a big way. Though we never had any liberal states touting secession during the Bush regime, we did have leaders in those states making it clear they did not like what he was doing. It can't be made any clearer than what those states (Texas and the like) are doing that they don't like some of what Obama is proposing.

What this nation stands for and the way of life of many are being threatened and a lot of folks don't like it - about half unless I miss my guess. Is what the right wingers are doing working, what with the tea parties and threats of secession and such? Are they getting more people to rally to thier cause? I don't know and only time will tell. I'm willing to watch before coming to any conclusion.

Let's all talk like children so Damo can be happy.

If you believe Texas would actually consider leaving the US, you're an idiot.

If you believe everybody is dumb enough not to know the orgins of where this idiocy comes from, you're an idiot.

If you believe that Obama didn't have to spend LOTS of money to repair the damage of the Bush years, you're an idiot. The fact that he had to spend lots of money to correct the failures was NEVER in question by ANYBODY. left, right, or center. I don't agree with where he spent it but spending it was never in question.

.. and I'll answer your question about patriotism. I'm patriotic about this country and it's people, not it's supposed "freedoms" which are subjective and have always been subjective.

Patriotism is not what the right-wing defined when they used it as a weapon, nor is it picking up your marbles and leaving because you can't have your fucking way.

Heh:

So what would Texas look like as a foreign country?

It would be the world's thirteenth largest economy -- bigger than South Korea, Sweden, and Saudi Arabia. But its worth would crater precipitously, after NAFTA rejected it and the United States slapped it with an embargo that would make Cuba look like a free-trade zone. Indeed, Texas would quick become the next North Korea, relying on foreign aid due to its insistence on relying on itself.

On the foreign policy front, a seceded Texas would suffer for deserting the world superpower. Obama wouldn't look kindly on secessionists, and would send in the military to tamp down rebellion. If Texas miraculously managed to hold its borders, Obama would not establish relations with the country -- though he might send a special rapporteur. (We nominate Kinky Friedman.)

So, Texas would need to court Mexico and Central American nations as a trading partners and protectors. Those very nations would also pose a host of problems for Texas. President Perry might find friends in anti-U.S. nations like Venezuela and Cuba, but their socialist politics would rankle the libertarian nation.

And Texas would become a conduit for drugs moving north to the United States from Mexico, maybe even becoming a narco-state. It would need to invest heavily in its own military and policing force to stop drug violence within its borders -- taking away valuable resources from, oh, feeding its people, fending off U.S. border incursions, and improving its standing in the world.

In short: the state of Texas would rapidly become direly impoverished, would need to be heavily armed, and would be wracked with existential domestic and foreign policy threats. It would probably make our failed states list in short order. Probably better to pay the damn taxes.

I'm sure president Chuck Norris would really turn the fledgling nation around though.

Yes, let's pretend the other side "talk like children" so we can ignore that states have actually passed legislation and referendums specific to this in some dismissive and sarcastic manner without actually recognizing that it exists in anything other than an imaginary state. (Not Texas, BTW they haven't, so far only their Governor has spoken of this).

Your attempt to slay the messenger has failed, what will you do now Oh Glorious Adult, to show your massive integrity as an "adult"?

As usual, I appreciate the sanity.

Keep in mind that in the midst of all this, Rick Perry is facing a tough election next year in the primaries from Kay Bailey Hutchinson. He's shoring up the knucklehead vote. He threw out the sucession thing .. then he ran away from it.. wouldn't comment on it, would do interviews.

Along comes the knuckleheads and they think this is a real issue and we should all be concerned about "freedom."

You're correct that nobdy on the left talks about detaching from the country, no matter how aggregious we believe the offense. We work within the system to change it.

Not all of these passed such a thing, but many actually have. This list of states is where such was considered, not always passed.

ZOMG YOU GOT ONE LEGISLATOR TO INTRODUCE A CRAZY FUCKING LAW SOMEWHERE THAT MUST MEAN MOMENTUM?!

Apparently it is the right-wing answer to the dumbass Bush impeachment resolutions introduced in various state and city legislatures. In true wingnut form they cranked it up to 11 though. They don't want impeachment, they want to secede.

Awesome.

I'm glad these folks have found cathartic outlets. I'm just worried about those that think it is more than that.

I don't have to do anything my brother.

You do it to yourself.

If I'm reading correctly, this thread is about Texas .. perhaps you have a different take on "Texas:Time to get rid of it."

Additionally, no state in America is talking about detaching itself from the United States and nobody with half a brain would take such talk seriously.

There are lots of people upset and uncomfortable with how Obama dispersed the huge sums of money he HAD to spend .. ME first and foremost. But what Perry is talking about is nothing more than campaign bullshit that knuckleheads can't see through.

Additionally, there are positive signs that the steps Obama has taken may shore up the economy to some degree. What degree that will be is yet to be seen.

Talk about "leaving the Union" and tea parties three months into a new administration from people who supported eight years of disaster is ludacris and completely ignorant .. and to couch that bullshit in with "freedom" is the talk of absolute morons.

You have the "freedom" to see to interpret this bullshit anyway you choose.

fucking hilarious, your obtuseness knows no bounds.

you really have zero clue how governments work or you're just totally fucking ignorant on purpose.

In order to put that bill on the table, what has to happen?
