Texas Student Who Protested Pledge of Allegiance Gets $90,000 in Settlement

They used to force us to pray in school.

The only school I ever attended with “enforced” prayer was a catholic school I went to in the 8th grade. But it wasn’t even mandatory for me, because I was a Protestant (I prayed anyway…I prayed that sister Mary Sherman tank wouldn’t ring my bell again because I forgot my homework). Funny thing about that school, I started as a below average student and ended up with a solid B average. I went back to public school for 9th grade and sailed through it, and went back to an average guy in high school because I was bored and unchallenged.

That one year of catholic school, with it’s mix of academic rigor, discipline, and religion was instrumental in my development. And I can’t forget about the love that was there. There is nothing like a big hug from sister Mary Sherman tank when you finally get the answer right.

After that place, in 3 different public schools, there wasn’t even a moment of silence or the pledge of allegiance, more’s the pity.

communists have a right to be communists.....if that wasn't true we wouldn't have demmycrats......but why shouldn't there also be a right to shun them?......

I remember when they added the "under god" to the anthem. The teachers had us go through it a few times to get it right. My public school had us chant it every morning. We were annoyed that they made it a little harder.
