In Texas Wednesday there will be a school board hearing to determine what does and does not belong in school textbooks.
The state of Texas is grappling with a new social studies curriculum for school children. The decision of what to include and what to leave out of the curriculum has a lot people upset. The decisions that are made in Texas, could affect school children in Georgia.
The Texas school board is responsible for deciding what textbooks wind up in all of the state's public schools. Recently, the board has been reviewing new guidelines for social studies books.
Other states are watching Texas' decisions closely because the state buys a lot of textbooks and that can influence textbook publishers.

To me, this is an interesting perspective on just where we are in America. We now have "boards" to decide what our kids are taught about and what they are not taught about in schools. Think about this for a moment, just take off any agenda-driven partisan hat, and think... What do you call 'knowledge' that is cherry-picked, coerced, and formulated to convey a particular viewpoint? Isn't this commonly referred to as "Propaganda?"
Regardless of your politics, shouldn't we be advocating an "educational" system be all-inclusive of knowledge? How can we claim to be "educating" our children, when we are not telling them the full story? Among the brilliant ideas these pinheads are mulling over, is the concept of teaching American History from 1876 forward, and disregarding the founding of the nation entirely. They say, because post-reconstruction is "more relevant" to our current history. They have contemplated whether Christopher Columbus is IN or OUT... Whether George Washington is IN or OUT of the TEXTBOOKS!
We no longer have a Public Education system in America! We have State-sponsored Propagandizing of our Youth! ...Really about the same as China!
Why can't our "education" include ALL perspectives, ALL opinions, ALL the information? What is the fundamental fear of knowledge? Could it be, this is not really about knowledge or education, but more about ideology and agendas? Rather than actually EDUCATING our kids, we had rather mull over what is "appropriate" to teach them, and what is unacceptable to even mention! Of course, it is considered appropriate to teach our youth about alternative homosexual lifestyles and denouncement of religion, but unacceptable to teach that we are a nation founded on the principle of endowed rights from our Creator! One is okay to teach, the other is forbidden knowledge!
