Ten Ways Criminal Justice Is One Of The Great Civil Rights Crises Of Our Time

No it is actually skewed by race as well. And this is the tip of the iceberg. Read Michelle Alexander's book, The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness, then come back and we'll talk. In fact, at every step of the way in the system, black people are more likely to get screwed when compared with white people with similar records. It is just astounding when you look at the statistics. It is not just poverty even poor whites fare much better in the criminal justice system than poor black people!

Well yes but money talks, for example O.J. Simpson and Snoop Dogg bought themselves murder acquittals just like Phil Spector did.

I know it's too early to tell for sure, but has the rate of #5 been reduced in Colorado and Washington?

5. Blacks are four times as likely to be arrested for marijuana than whites, even though they use the drug at similar rates...

Well yes, but most black defendants don't have that kind of money.

Let's face it. Driving while white isn't a crime. Driving while black often is.

It's about institutionalized "white privilege", which is bullshit. The only privilege I had was my dad actually married my mom, then they had kids, was around to kick our asses when we messed up, and they stayed married...

Lack of proper income correlates with crime also.

You think Snoop bought himself acquittal?

I'm sure Johnnie Cochran didn't come cheap. We both know rich people and/or celebrities get a different kind of justice than the masses. I see it like this:

Best justice
1. Rich white people
2. Rich black people

Worst justice
1. Poor white people
2. Poor black people

Let's see what kind of justice you or I would get if we did what the people in this link did. http://www.popcrunch.com/15-celebrity-criminals/

This is slightly off topic but let me address the above. The idea of white privilege is not to say every white person has privilege in the sense that everyone white has a benefit. I think the idea of white privilege is based on the systematic sociological structure that there are unwritten, unrecognizable benefits. For example the world sees dark skin complexion as ugly as opposed to fair and lighter skin complexion. Same thing when encountering police. Sure there are some whites that are harrassed by the cops juse there are blacks. However depending on the area and the statistical crime rate, drug-related crimes, etc that may determine police interaction on white victims.

However one cannot deny that in other facets of society there are benefits that are most specifically racially charged. Whites are greatly represented in the media, and hell even in your nearest "Walgreens" when looking at shampoos and hair products you can most certainly locate items for straight hair texture whereas "ethnic products" are somewhere else in the store, separated. Just like us men we too, are privileged. Not only in language but in almost every aspect of society. I recognize the fact that although I'm not privileged based on my skin color, in other aspects of society I do recognize my privilege as being a man and the perks that come along with my gender.

This white privilege thing is made up by the liberal establishment of whole cloth. As a white male growing up I never saw these "unwritten, unrecognizable benefits". Maybe the kids on the Hill who went to private school did, but not kids in my 'hood. Society sees white as ugly; look at all the tanning salons and products being sold. Guys I know consider an attractive black girl just as hot, if not hotter, than an attractive white girl.

Police are suspicious and react based on behavior, not skin color. I've seen both sides myself.
