Ted Cruz Tells Reporters "I'm a Christian First, American Second"

we do fight ISIS in terms of their use of social media, and if we find terrorists here -they get arrested - even if they aren't successful.
We have laws against both foreign and domestic terrorism.. the AUMF also allows sustained battlefield action

I get what Cruz was saying, but he really was pandering ( not that they all don't).
There was no need for him define a hierarchy of his loyalties.

Further if he would become president, then his oath of office has to come first, if it conflicts with his other loyalties.
This isn't a big deal - but Cruz had no business saying all this as he's running for POTUS

I'm with you. He's going after the evangelical vote and is pandering to that crowd. As President the Constitution comes first.

I dont think a person should have to give up his faith or even place it second to be president. Putting God before country in this case does not mean forcing everybody to be a Christian it just means that as president he wouldn't put his faith in God second, which in my opinion he shouldn't have to do as long as he doesn't involve himself in things that go beyond what is allowed through the constitution. And if he is involved in something that might go against his faith in God then we know as citizens and voters that elected him that he would do that. I don't think that means abandoning the country or hating the country or letting it break apart by saying he puts God first. I put God above everything else too but that doesn't mean you don't want the best for the country. That's just my opinion.

and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

note: "So help me God" is not legally or Constitutionally mandated ; unlike other federal oaths that invoke them as standard procedure.
 
I'm not much on these various labels we give the Islamic terrorists.....Al Qaeda and ISIL and ISIS and militant jihadism and Islamic radicalism, whatever.....

The labels don't matter at all to me or the people they murder....we are at war with all of them.....not with Muslims in general, just the crazies that are intent on

killing US citizens....that why I told Christiefan we are at war with ISIS or ISIL, whatever today's label is....

They want to make a big deal out the Cruz remark, anything to make a mountain out of a molehill....

You should know by now that my criticism is about how we ignore the problems in our own country to focus on what's happening overseas. It's a lot easier to get dumb people to focus on Muslims than on the everyday violence here.

I'm a Christian. As President the constitution and rule of law comes first no matter who is President and that's a good thing. Doesn't mean you can't true to who you are though

I don't label myself with an "either-or", I'll leave that to you black-and-white thinkers. I'm committed to the separation of church and state in government and am uncomfortable when politicians go beyond general statements.

I didn't like when bush talked about Iraq like it was a mission from God (paraphrasing, for all the nit pickers) or when Gen. Boykin put it as a battle between God and Satan. It's just wrong.

I don't know anything about military mottoes but as long as they don't carry a crucifix into battle or attempt to proselytize, no problem..
