Ted ‘Carpet-Bomb’ Cruz

Oh you aren't pushing him so the drones he has dropped don't count?

I get it

And I am sure you believe that 100% of his drones kill muslime terrorists with ZERO collateral damage right?

I wrote to him and criticized him for droning. I really don't understand why you think I support it.

I've probably missed something here but what is wrong with what he said above? I would hope our President doesn't outright target civilians but the reality is civilian causalities occur in war and when bombing.

What's wrong is his idea that carpet bombing is the way to go. Even the generals disagree with him.

Do you consider Bush's shock and awe aerial attack on Baghdad 'carpet bombing' ?

How about old time carpet bombing the ISIS only....not innocent noncombatants....?

Britain is using snipers, I think special forces would be a better option to fighting ISIS than carpet bombings.

How many times have you said on this forum that "words mean something"?

You must not have read the article or else you've totally ignored what the generals said about Cruz's comments.

OK ....read it...

Mr. Cruz is a lawyer and a foreign-policy neophyte. Anyone with any understanding of military strategy knows that “carpet-bombing” is a term used by amateurs trying to sound tough. Indiscriminate bombing has never been a military strategy, and it would be senseless in an age of “smart” weaponry and precise targeting.
(Except it was a military strategy some time ago)

“That’s just another one of those phrases that people with no military experience throw around,” chuckled retired Maj. Gen. Robert Scales, a military historian and former commandant of the Army War College in Carlisle, Pa.

Obviously, Cruz is not a General or a soldier at all....nor was Obama a doctor when he made a mess out of our healthcare system....

there has been no 'carpet bombing' since the '60's....when Democrats were in power and smart bombs had yet to be perfected.....its a obsolete phrase that means nothing today....
it has no more meaning than 'the cats meow' or some other phrase from decades ago.....just like saying we'd bomb someone back into the stone age....a figure of speech.

get a grip.....Obama is still killing civilians with drones and it didn't keep you from voting for him,...........twice.

Once, not twice. But nice diversion from Cruz's inflammatory rhetoric.

Where is his room to talk, he voted for Bush twice.

I'm not complaining about killing Islamic terrorists....I'd bomb the shit our them....(thats a figure of speech)

I'd like to see every ISIS member not breathing earths valuable air...or any air for that matter.

We all would like to see every form of terrorism wiped out, and those responsible brought to justice, but it has been shown that bombing innocent people is a recruiting tool for terrorists.

ISIS wants a war between Islam and the West, this can not be stressed enough.

You have a valid point .....
You're absolutely right....ISIS does want a holy war with the West....they don't want a war between ISIS and the West because we'll kick their asses.

Like the Generals say, targeting civilians is NOT what this country does and hasn't for decades, but sadly, it was a tactic of the past....that is undeniable.
We don't use dumb bombs in an indiscriminate way and the latest and greatest smart bombs hit what they're aimed at with amazing accuracy....
What we need is the leadership to use our power against those trying to kill us....and not allow an immigration policy that puts our people in more danger than it already is....
They ought to me the today's issues.

any targeting of innocent people should be seen as a recruiting tool for either side....but it seems that Americans getting killing right here in our own cities isn't
causing any explosion of patriotism among our citizens as it should and did for awhile after 9/11....the only thing I see gaining strength today is partisanship and willful ignorance of reality
and the distance between the citizens........
most likely caused by a media that has obvious double standards....and a strong influence on many....

Another saber-rattling chickenhawk who's unfit to command the military let alone lead the nation. Hope all are paying attention to his casual dismissal of civilian deaths as "collateral casualties."
Hope all are understanding that Cruz is okay with killing innocent civilians just like the San Bernardino killers did.

"This would have been an instructive Senate hearing for Ted Cruz to attend: “U.S. Strategy to Counter the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant and U.S. Policy Toward Iraq and Syria.”

The bellicose senator from Texas blew that one off on Wednesday; he was in New York, shaking his saber on Fox News and courting big-dollar donors at a closed-door luncheon on Madison Avenue. His favorite line on ISIS seems to be, “We will carpet-bomb them into oblivion,” which he said in Iowa last week. His irresponsible chatter is of a piece with most Republican presidential candidates, who are busy offering phony prescriptions for the biggest foreign threat the United States faces.

In Syria and Iraq, mass bombing would kill hundreds of innocent civilians and fuel radicalization. That’s why military leaders utter the term “carpet-bomb” only while laughing at Mr. Cruz.
“That’s just another one of those phrases that people with no military experience throw around,” chuckled retired Maj. Gen. Robert Scales, a military historian and former commandant of the Army War College in Carlisle, Pa...

...On NPR on Tuesday, Mr. Cruz further betrayed his ignorance by saying he could carpet-bomb ISIS without targeting civilians. “I want to carpet-bomb ISIS. Now when you say ‘carpet-bomb cities,’ look, no — no reasonable military endeavor targets civilians. Now, inevitably in war, there are inadvertent collateral casualties. That — it is impossible to wage a war without their being inadvertent collateral casualties.”

What a hysterical overreaction to a non-specific statement. Are you a chick?
