Your problem, as we all know before even asking, is that you don't believe anything government does is good or necessary. Maybe social security isn't necessary in the strictest sense of the word, but most people in this country believe that what it accomplishes is worthwhile.

Libertarians run the gambit from the hugely reasonable like Adam Weinberg to the utterly confused and hopeless, such as yourself.

He made it very clear, and the Republicans made sure everyone knew, that Obama had every intention of raising taxes. The fact that it failed to anger people leads a reasonable person to conclude that America realizes that taxes are necessary and higher taxes on the people who have spent the last 29 years fleecing America (and making out like bandits because of the conservative economic policies we've been suffering under) are acceptable.

As it stands, Democrats and Republicans are the only relevant people in our political culture. Libertarians barely register, Constitution party barely registers, and most people can be adequately encompassed by the two greater parties in our national spectrum. That's because most people are reasonable and can have reasonable discussions with other reasonable people on things like tax rates and how to spend taxes. The looney fringe that says there should be no taxes at all can and should be ignored so the adults can make progress.
