Taxing fattening food

Chapdog

Abreast of the situations
Past few days i have read or saw numerous media blitz articles about how necessary a tax on fattening foods is to combat obesity. Here is one example:
http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/boo...atties-tax-their-food-pay-for-healthcare.html

Now is there a soul who is of right mind who doesn't see this as a method to garner more revenue with a potential and unproven collateral selling point that it will reduce obesity? And what happens when the government becomes dependent on that revenue if free markets take hold and companies stop making the obesity list foods due to lower sales?

Its always amazing to me when the general public falls for some selling point on a tax increase. How is it you willingly would let a government whom collects over :eek:2.5T:eek: in annual revenue from us and doesn't already give us free education, health care, or cant even guarantee your Social Security take more of your money?

It just doesn't make any sense and I cant even guess at how retarded people are that don't see it for what it is.

As the demand for a sin taxed product drops they just raise the taxes. Just look at cigarettes.

With that said however I feel that taxing junk/fast food is a way to pay for healthcare reform and decrease the consumption of junk/fast food. It has worked with Cigarettes.

And btw I am a smoker.

True but a lot of that has to do with industry lobbying/interference.

We have seen how the industries health care turns out. So now it is time to try some govt interference in the industry.
