Tariff Man is back, and American consumers will pay for it

So cutting off ours & their noses until one concedes is the great deal makers only option....... That is really kinda sad, isn't it??

Like w/ the TPP he didn't even try to negotiate, he pulled out.

Terrible deal, pls anyone here actually believe he read that??? Not even funny.....

I don't have a magic solution, I don't claim to be the worlds great deal makers.. I would not proceed to play the game on a world stage W/ ZERO EXPERIENCE...

What seems clear, regardless of how much more taxes we are forced to pay, china is not going to capitulate on certain things...

They are not going to stop stealing patents, nor forcing corporations to give up the tech....

The world is against these practices but instead of joining w/ them we are attacking & threatening them/ our allies just like they were our enemies.......

That has got to be horrible strategy in anyone's book............

What is you great plans??
Yep. I started a thread a few days ago. He's digging us in deeper and deeper, and all China has to do is sit back and wait until Jan. '21

You have been pretty consistent....

They say free trade really isn't free.....

Like we have few or no restrictions & china has them on US products, is that free trade??

I gave an example a few months ago about by daughter purchasing tiny things for projects for less than a dollar & free shipping from RED CHINA...

Why in the world, in 2019 is the US subsidizing Chinese small business??? TOTALLY STUPID!!
Because of the huge profits reaped by American business. Why else?

What trump (and evidently Dummkopf) is too stupid to understand, is that trade is not a zero sum game. In many of our agreements, our allies do better on paper, but they allow us to build up our defenses in the region. Our post WW2 policy has been about oil. Lots of it. It is the foundation of every foreign policy decision we have ever made.

It was to our supposed benefit to lose millions in trade, so long as we keep the free flow of oil.

Or have strategic military buildup in a region.

It was a trade agreement between Asian nations and the US which dealt China out. In principle a big advantage.
We never really saw the whole picture, because Obama tried to ram it through without Congressional oversight. I wasn't in favor.

Are they doing this for free?? Is trump subsidizing that?? Or will these be costs passed on to American consumers as they attempt to get around these trump taxes??? asking for a friend..
They're leaving to avoid the tariffs. Not to worry, trump will sniff it out and leave his taint on that too.

After backtracking to the actual study, their numbers are a stretch and are assuming worst case scenarios that aren't really that plausible when all put together.

Don't get me wrong, tariffs hurt consumers to be sure, but their numbers are likely too high.
Go appliance shopping. You're halfway to those numbers if you buy a dishwasher and fridge.

no added costs -diversification of the supply chain due to tariffs ( among other things)

You and I obviously have very different views of trade. And that's fine. People can disagree and hold differing viewpoints.

While the TPP wasn't free trade, managed trade is the better term, it still advanced economic freedoms. Admittedly I don't have the desire at the moment to get into the weeds on why we should have signed the agreement but people can disagree.
WTF is "economic freedoms" -

What kind of fantasy world do you live in? The economic trajectory is the same as Obama left Trump. There is no boom. The economy was doing the same before the dereg. Citizens, like you, do not understand regulations are for their protection. Corporations will pollute everything in the name of greed. They will cheat and dump.
NK is shooting missiles 3 times a week, What kind of an accomplishment is that? They have continued their nuke program unabated. That is a Trump victory. All smoke and mirrors.
China thinks long term. They are under no obligation to help Daffys reelection. They would probably want to trust a saner and level headed president. Trump is in a class of crazy all by himself.
insanely dumb

the "missiles"are short range, not even enough distance to hit Japan. No SHIT China thinks long term -so does Trump -that why we are re-negotiating

Stupid here doesn't update his brain to the fact we do NOT need foreign oil.
By next year ( thanks to Trump) we'll be an energy exporter

This reasoning is pure garbage - par for the course by ALTHEA -but then again he believed "blood for oil" in Iraq

since Trump will likely be elected -this reasoning is also specious.. China is dragging it's feet because it can.
Signing anything will disadvantage China - which is why tariffs are needed to force their hand

Also Xi's power is under assault -the hawks are giving him hell for negotiaations

It's a measure used to judge trade deals and their impact on trade liberalization. If we had true free trade there would be no tariffs, restrictions etc. We obviously don't have that. We can just trade deals on whether they increase or decrease tariffs, restrictions etc. TPP was deemed to be a positive for liberalizing trade.

I dont care about liberalizing trade. I care about American trade

the drop is on long term fears of a trade war, not just the 10% ( which Apple hasn't paid upto now)..

There is NO OTHER WAY to get China to talk - so what do you want?

short term gain, but no trade reforms?
or short term pain and trade reform?

If we do not come to a deal, this will not be revisted again
