The part about blaming deployment fatigue on the SSG's recent war crimes is a bit much. Clearly there would be a lot more of these incidents if that were the case. It also seems that a lot of the most notorious incidents occurred early on in the war, such as Abu Ghraib.

Combine it with the suicide rate and it is critical. These poor guys are o battle fatigued it is ridiculous. I bet if you look at the increase of pousal abuse and child abuse, plus instance abuse and alcoholism. There is a lot of casualties of the four dliyment military personnel, especially if they are patrol units.

Those things, while bad, are more normal reactions to stress and depression. What this guy did was extreme, and probably had a lot more behind it in terms of his attitudes and psyche. Alcoholism is a military tradition that exists, regardless of whether we are at war or not.

All of these things exist, but the problem is the are at an all time high due to the last ten years of war. My brother in law says the suicide rate is down, due to an effort by the military to decrease them, but the rate of all the other stuff I mentioned is at an all time high.

I understand tat the Sgt. had a friend who lost his leg in combat a few days before he shot these civilians. If he was mentally unstable and then his friends injury occurred, well, it forced him over the edge. It does not excuse what he did, but as I have said before, war changes these young people, they make them killers of men, sometimes the mind just snaps and you murder.

I wish we didn't have to send anyone to war.
