Most Americans want Republicans in the U.S. Senate to consider the president’s Supreme Court nominee.

In a new HuffPost/YouGov poll, Americans approve by a 13-point margin of Obama’s decision to nominate Garland, an appellate judge, to the Supreme Court.

Fifty-two percent want Republicans in the Senate to hold hearings, while just 28 percent say they shouldn’t do so.

While Americans are divided along partisan lines, the split is less dramatic than one might expect. Sixty percent of Democrats want the Senate to hold hearings, as do 49 percent of Republicans and 46 percent of independents.

Poll: Trump, Clinton score historic unfavorable ratings

Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton register net negative ratings in double digits, indicating the front-runners for each party's presidential nominations are viewed negatively at historic levels, according to a new CBS/New York Times poll.

That makes Trump and Clinton are viewed more unfavorably than any front-runner for either party since CBS began polling voters on the question.

On the Republican side, Trump scores a net negative of -33, with a favorable rating of 24% compared to 57% of voters who view him unfavorably.

On the Democrat side, Clinton fares only slightly better with a net negative of -21, registering a 31% favorable rating and a 52% unfavorable rating, according to the poll.

Another circle jerk between Legion Troll and Leo.

Poor Trolls, can't afford a room so they sow their love through JPP.

When the Washington Post looked closer to see how the people who believed "whites are losing out" planned to vote, the results were unsurprising: 54 percent self-identified as Trump voters, compared to 37 percent for Cruz.

That’s a fairly significant gap.

What distinguishes the typical Trump voter is his or her propensity to project their anger on brown people or Mexicans or Muslims or whoever.

Trump is giving people predisposed to fear the “other” the boogeymen they need. Even better, he’s promising to build a giant wall to keep them out.

Polls like this speak to the power of identity politics, and how Trump has exploited it.

Donald Trump's poll numbers have plunged to new lows after a month of escalating violence at his rallies.

After heavy media coverage of fights at his events and his repeated moves to egg on his backers as they get rough with protestors, Trump is now trailing Hillary by a gap that could be the largest in decades come election day.

Clinton is clobbering Trump by double digits in five of the six national polls released this week, up from narrow leads she held for most of the campaign.

Trump's slide is being driven by women as the percentage of Americans with an unfavorable opinion of him continues to rise. Pollsters believe the violence at his rallies — not to mention his ongoing misogynistic rhetoric — may be scaring off Republican and independent female voters.

"There’s a possibility that the violence at the rallies has cut into his overall popularity," said Quinnipiac University Assistant Polling Director Tim Malloy.

Quinnipiac's numbers look better for Trump than any other recent national survey's — he trails Clinton by just 6 points in their poll. Bloomberg's survey found him down by 18 points as his personal brand continues to erode, with Trump's unfavorable numbers at 68%, up from 61% the last time they polled in November, a staggering figure.

“Trump’s numbers are bad and getting worse,” Bloomberg pollster J. Ann Selzer said when the poll was released. “A majority of Americans now describe their feelings toward him as very unfavorable. That’s a 13-point spike from November 2015.”

Said Ed Goeas, a top Republican pollster, "Republican women, particularly Republican married women, have been turning increasingly negative towards Trump, and it’s not based on his ideology, it’s based on his character and his style. They’re really taking a look at the measure of the man, and he’s falling short."

Goeas said increased focus on Trump's attitude towards women — like that displayed in his recent attacks on Ted Cruz's wife's appearance — is hurting him.
