Supreme Court issues emergency order temporarily blocking full SNAP food aid payments

Many states spent their own money, assuming that the feds will at some point send the money, likely correctly.
Nope USDA uploaded full funds today to the states, a neighbour who works for NCDSS said partials went out this morning and the balance already received from USDA is being loaded on Snap cards tonight

Too late most states already complied

No, Guano, most states are not "already fully-funded", because under standard SNAP rules, SNAP benefits are 100% federally funded.
  • Benefits (the actual money loaded onto EBT cards) are paid entirely by the federal government. States have zero financial responsibility for benefit costs.
  • The Schumer shutdown caused regular federal SNAP appropriations to lapse, with only partial federal funding disbursed to date.
  • During the gap, only a handful of states (e.g., Virginia, Louisiana, New Mexico, Vermont, Oregon) temporarily used their own money to cover some or all benefits for their residents; that's far from "most states."
  • The vast majority waited for federal funds and did not step in with state dollars. SNAP benefits are a federal responsibility. States rely entirely on federal money.
