The NBER paper suggested government restrictions were primarily responsible for the economic damage.

Data from Oxford University and the US Bureau of Labor and Statistics show that states with the most restrictive policies had substantially more unemployment than states with the least restrictive policies.

Nor is this the only evidence that suggests lockdowns, not the virus, were the primary economic destructor.

A brief look at history shows there was no massive economic collapse in previous pandemics that were similarly deadly (or more deadly).

It's easy to say "the economy". But just like the riots put real people out of business, the lock downs did as well

The lockdowns are a result of the Trump virus. You cannot separate them. Do you think we would have had lockdowns if the Trump virus did not happen?

Yes there is, plenty of evidence you just refuse to see it.
True it does help with that, have you figured out why that is, it because fewer people get infected and all that results in fewer Deaths.
Herd immunity can be attained two ways, one is throw exposure to the virus which results in huge numbers of deaths Or through vaccines which result in far fewer deaths, pick one.

Proven, all you have to do is use some common sense, do you have that skill, or you can look at countries like South Korea or Australia plus several others and you see how well it can work when part of the population isn't whining like little girls about having to wear a mask and social distance.

A simple fact the Trumpkins ignore in their futile attempt to defend Trump is that Covid, left uncheck as Trump wanted, would have devastated the economy at the additional cost of many more dead Americans.

Do they think that Americans would have flocked to casinos, sporting events, and buffets if they knew a virus which had no preventive treatment, or vaccine, nor natural immunity, was spreading rapidly thru the society via social contact? All the hydroxychloroquine and Lysol in the world wouldn’t have change that reality

The CDC can predict, very accurately, the number of expected deaths in any given time period. With the onset of COVID, there have been over 500,000 excess deaths than normally expected. Yet, the “official” COVID death count is much lower, = undercount.
