It may seem obvious, but it doesn't change the policy. Until the courts determine that it is obvious (and I fail to understand how the policy passes even rational basis review) it will remain the policy unless Congress does something about it. And Congress won't do anything about it until a whole lot more people agree that it is obvious. Studies like this help on both fronts.

Prior to Truman they said blacks were not as good in combat, they they lacked courage, that whites would not serve with them and that it would hurt morale. Truman gave the order, offered to accept resignations, was saluted smartly and it worked. My bet Damo was it wasn't so obvious to the conservatives that didn't want the military integrated either.
Again, I think it was. They let emotions cloud their ability to see reason. I would simply give the order were I CIC. There wouldn't be any arguing.

You guys are misunderstanding the reason for no gays in the military.
They cannot have soldiers falling in love. It will cause them to disobey orders to protect beloved individuals, perhaps contrary to the tactical plans of the field commanders. But i don't really care either way on this one. I'm just providing my amazing insights for the edification of all, as usual.
