Definitely a set up. How many times have you seen a single member of female staff enter or request entry to a room. I have stayed in hotels from the basest dive to the best 5 star and never, not once, has a single female chambermaid, waitress or anything else entered or tried to gain entry into any room. They always work in pairs. In fact, should you return to your room when they are tidying up, they will immediately leave.
Strauss-Kahn was known to think with his second brain and had accumulated enemies both in France and internationally. This was a classic honey trap.
Nevertheless, even under provocation, a man in his position should know when and where to display the blue veined beast. So he is guilty. But there needs to be a full investigation and if the perpetrators of the set up are found they should be prosecuted and hung out to dry.

There was probably a disagreement over payment for services.

Lying about rape is about as low as one can go (no pun intended). The penalties for rape are comparable to manslaughter and the stigma even worse and who knows if she implicated any person or group in her home country when she said she was gang raped? How can you defend such an individual?

After being dragged from room to room and forcibly raped she goes to the next hotel room, cleans it, then returns and cleans the suite in which she was supposedly raped.

And as for the Strauss-Kahn supposedly leaving the hotel so quickly he left his cell phone there hasn't anyone forgotten their phone before? My wife has, on a couple of occasions, got in her car before realizing her phone was on charge and has had to re-enter the house through the garage and basement and go to the kitchen to retrieve it and she certainly didn't leave the first time in a hurry.

Let's see if that women is booted out of the country now that her lie for asylum has come to light. It will be interesting to see how justice works.

And most of this came out without him directly having to investigate her - if incidents like this do not come out in common trials, there's something wrong with our system of justice. The standard for proving that someone is a rapist is not proving beyond a reasonable doubt that the person who alleged the rape is a liar. I haven't definitively called her a liar. I've simply pointed out that she has destroyed her own credibility, and thusly her testimony isn't useful as evidence to prove him guilty. Could she be telling the truth? I can see it. So I don't think she's a liar beyond a reasonable doubt. Do I think it's at all likely? No. I also don't think anyone should be able to destroy the entire credibility of a person just by crying rape, especially when they've shown their own credibility to be so non-existent.

Who is really interested in that money she could get out of the deal and lies about a similar type of crime to the police.

Let's imagine a world in which a man pays a prostitute for sex, the prostitute realizes, after talking to their friend in prison, that they could get a load of money out of a civil suite by accusing him of rape, and files charges. Now let's imagine another world in which a man, who has enough money to buy a prostitute any time he wants, just goes into a random hotel room and rapes a random maid. This man, who apparently has these random urges to rape anyone and everyone, was also apparently able to keep things together for 60 years enough to, I don't know, nearly become the president of his country. I mean, in my wildest imagination, yes, I could see how we could be in either world. But can you really point to any definitive evidence that would tell me for certain if we were in one world or the other? And one is, increasingly, seeming to be much more unlikely than the other. Our system of justice, at the very least, shouldn't throw a man in prison when there are such clear doubts.
