If the person's education results in a $100,000/yr job as opposed to a $50,000/yr job they're definitely ahead. If the person has the education for a $100,000/yr job but can only find a job paying $50,000/yr they pay only 10% of the $50,000. It's a win-win situation.

true.. formula id use is.. only gonna pay for my kids 4year degree if he will earn more then the degree costs in the first 4 years. SO say degree costs 200k.. better earn 50K a year on avg.

AKA no bullshit degrees.. only paying for something with a return.

that would pretty much suck if your loan was for then 10% of your income for 20years.
But you could go to Hahvid then sell old baseball cahds out of your mum's basement.

It's the perfect lib-tard dream: become a professional student for as long as you like then have next to no responsibility to pay for it later. :palm:

well I got student loans, and then we took out loans to put my wife who already had under grad loans thru nursing school.. So I will be paying for about 15 more years on student loans. Refinanced them out 20years at 3%. Ill be done with my house before my student loans.

So? I went to a state school on the cheap to avoid big debt. I was offered a scholarship to Johns Hopkins grad school but refused it because my loans were due. You take out a loan, pay it back. Don't ask me to do it for you.

I am ready to give up on Obama and the dems entirely.

It sounded to me like Obama may just open a can of whoopass this year.

He fucken better pull the BIG can off the shelf.

The current prediction is that we lose seven or eight in the senate and we lose the house. He'd better do something grand to even out numbers like this.

That was quite the speech. Reminded me of a guy I knew in my younger years after he partook of amphetamines.....on and on and on and....

The student loan repayment topic was definitely a highlight. To be repaid at a maximum rate of 10% of income and the loan canceled if there is an outstanding balance after 20 years it's close to a government paid education which is the ideal.

Lesson: Stay in school through Phd., work for the community colleges where they'll be all 'stimulated', then after 20 years, start your own business, debt free! Yee haw!

I don't think there is any way it will be that bad.

Just from current numbers. The median prediction has the Democrats losing around seven seats. And I think if we do badly enough to lose seven senate seats, we're probably going to lose the majority in the house as well.

Those numbers aren't written in stone, though. I don't think, a year ago, anyone could imagine the Dems losing the house. And I think the situation will be different in 2012 is well.

Lesson: Get an education so you know when people are BS-ing you. (that's a generic "you")

IMO, one of the main benefits of education is the interaction between students/teachers which is a drawback with on-line learning.

Whether it's accounting or engineering, it's the interaction between people that is the true education. It's hearing different views. It's being surrounded by different people. It's about learning about life. It's the milieu that produces a rounded education.

When people stop attending learning institutions they tend to settle into a lifestyle and associate with similar people. Their "education" about life is greatly reduced because of the reduced diversity of their associates. That doesn't happen to everyone but it does to many because they're all concentrating on their jobs and family.

That's why, IMO, it's so important to encourage/promote continued education.

does anyone else think he was condescending and a bit rude at times?
Yes. He has appeared that way to me from the beginning of my exposure to him. He has an ego bigger than most others I know. Napoleonic, I think. Hell, he may even go so far as to crown himself.
